Why did so few come to support Jesus during His trial with Pilate when so many came to faith during His earthly ministry?

The very short answer Fear the people feared those who ruled over them more than they were willing to stand with Jesus when His time had come. The authorities of the time the Romans had the power of death in their hand, the Pharisees and Sadducees the power to expel from the Jewish cultural society. A major weapon of the evil one is fear, to stop people from standing for what is right and of God but if you choose to stand, they'll make fun of you, or sue you, and cause you to lose your liberties the best they can. 1Cor 16:13 In the Lord's freedom and liberty......warrior on

There is a divine contradiction in Jesus' coming to earth. Jesus preached and did many miracles, so that people whose names are written in the Book of Life would believe in Him as their Saviour. On the other hand, Jesus had to have His enemies, His opponents, who are predestined to bring Him to the Cross to His death.. Those are the people's religious leaders: the pharisees and adduces who had ample followers. They needed to shout: 'Crucify Him" so that Pilate could have Christ crucified. If there were no enemies of Christ, but just believers, how could Christ be executed? For this purpose, God made HIs enemies to have eyes that can not see. To have ears but can not hear. They were made unable to understand Jesus' teachings and His mighty miracles, as was prophesied by Yesaya centuries earlier.

I believe that this was a fulfillment of the prophetic word spoken in Zechariah 13:7: "Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, and against the man that is my fellow, saith the Lord of hosts: smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered: and I will turn mine hand upon the little ones." The fulfillment of this prophecy is found in Matthew 26:47-56. But I will only highlight the following: v.55 In that same hour said Jesus to the multitudes, "are ye come out as against a thief with swords and staves for to take me? I sat daily with you teaching in the temple, and ye laid no hold on me." v.56 "But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled." Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled. I believe the other prophet is Isaiah and his prophetic account in chapter 53.
