I believe this verse referring to praying in tongues shows, that often no one understands it except God, Who, through His Holy Spirit, is getting us to speak His will ... which would also be prophesying. I believe the praying in tongues edifies because when we are speaking to God in tongues our mind does not 'disagree' with what we are praying because our mind doesn't understand the language we are speaking. Everything is spoken into existence and our words still PRODUCE (either good or bad) and if we will pray in tongues GOD can speak things HE wants to come to pass and we will not disagree or negate the prayer because we don't understand what we just said. It is God's way of bypassing our lack of faith and maturity in areas of our lives, and bringing His perfect will to pass for, in and through us.
Please show me in scripture where it says that God wants us to speak in tongues to Him. Taking a Bible verse out of context and supplying your own interpretation to the scripture is against God's word! Why is it that every scripture that we have in the Bible needs to be interpreted? When there is a problematic verse in scripture that is difficult to interpret, we must use other scripture to verify what the text means. If other scripture does not give us the same understanding or meaning then possibly we were not meant to know the meaning of the scripture.
NO WHERE IN SCRIPTURE does it say that if we pray to God in tongues, He can then speak things He wants to come to pass. Your telling me that the only way God can make His will happen is if we speak in tongues? If that is the case, you may want to find a differnt church that teaches the TRUE word of God.
