What do the four wheels mean?
Ezekiel 10:8 - 22
ESV - 8 The cherubim appeared to have the form of a human hand under their wings. 9 And I looked, and behold, there were four wheels beside the cherubim, one beside each cherub, and the appearance of the wheels was like sparkling beryl.

One of the stories put out by those who believe that alien beings visited this planet is that this was a super-helicopter! Close, but not cigar. God had had His fill of the Judeans who were dashing every which-way all over the place while ignoring Him. God kept His promise to depart from them, even exiting the Temple. He went up, unwavering, every aspect of His departure in tune, including the spinning objects (wheels) obeying His every command. That's what was happening. It must have been a majestic sight! Later on you read God's judgment upon those who had abandoned Him.

Based off of some commentary that I am familiar with, the four wheels are a symbol of the attributes of God. Ezekiel 1:16-17 indicates that the wheels were well-made, moved easily, and in all directions. They also rumbled when they moved, as large wheels do. Ezekiel 1:18 The wheels are covered in eyes, which is indicated as meaning high intelligence and perception. Ezekiel 1:19 They also could move horizontally along the ground as well as vertically. Ezekiel 1:20-21 The wheels and creatures moved at the impulse of the Spirit. It is suggested by commentators that this overall picture is representative of God's omnipresence (the ability to be everywhere), omniscience (all knowing), and omnipotence (all powerful). I would add to that God's sovereignty, seeing as how the chariot is pulling a throne with God's humanoid form resting on it. This scene is to be of comfort to those in despair that God is on the move and is at work behind the scenes. Isaiah 55:9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
