I have 2 wonderful cousins who have been adopted, born on the same day but 1 year apart (Of course, these 2 beautiful baby girls could have come from the same biological family, but the now gorgeous young women are really from 2 different biological families). Adoption is 1 of the most wonderful words in the English language, evoking a strong sense of belonging and being wanted. It describes our relationship as children of God (if you are saved), then you are adopted sons and daughters (Romans 8:15; Ephesians 1:5). A movie which 1 of the Ebible.com members recommended in 1 of her answers was "To Save a Life." So I saw it, and it presents Adoption in an extremely favorable light! As Christians, we are commanded especially to care for the orphans. James tells us that "pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble..." (James 1:27, NKJV).. See the movie "Faith Like Potatoes" for perfect proof of this by Angus and Jill Buchan! Adoption in the New Testament A few New Testament instances allude to the Old Testament view of adoption, perhaps even indicating the legal kind (e.g., John 19:26-27; Jas 1:27, which is about caring for orphans). But adoption is most often used in a theological sense. Rom 8:15] Adopted O what a blessing, how can I express it? Out of the fullness of rapture I sing, Now by the Father received and adopted, I am a child and an heir of a King.
