What fragrance indicates both death and life (2 Cor. 2:15-16)?

To some we are the odor of death that is a prelude to death, to the others the fragrance of life that is a prelude to life. And who is qualified for these things?

2 Corinthians 2:1 - 17

ESV - ¹ For I made up my mind not to make another painful visit to you. ² For if I cause you pain, who is there to make me glad but the one whom I have pained?
