What fragrance indicates both death and life (2 Cor. 2:15-16)?
EHV To some we are the odor of death that is a prelude to death, to the others the fragrance of life that is a prelude to life. And who is qualified for these things?

ESV - 1 For I made up my mind not to make another painful visit to you. 2 For if I cause you pain, who is there to make me glad but the one whom I have pained?

The image that Paul is evoking is that of incense burning during a triumphal procession (as in Roman times) of individuals who have been liberated from captivity (in the case of redeemed Christians, their former captivity to sin) through faith in Christ, as well as of the sinful forces or individuals who have held them captive prior to their liberation. The redeemed associate the fragrance of the incense with their everlasting freedom, while the captors associate that same fragrance with their forthcoming everlasting punishment.
