Why didn't God want Adam and Eve to eat from the tree of life?
Genesis 2:9
ESV - 9 And out of the ground the Lord God made to spring up every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

I believe that Genesis 3:22 indicates that, despite the fact that Adam and Eve were in a sinful, fallen condition (from which they could never return to their former unfallen state) after having eaten the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, if they had subsequently eaten of the tree of life, they (as well as all their descendants) would nevertheless have become immortal (although still sinful). This would have meant that all humans would forever have been consigned to a state of separation from God because of their sin. There could not then have been a plan of substitutionary redemption (as accomplished by Christ), since (contrary to what Paul said in Romans 6:23), death would no longer have been the wages of sin, and it would not have been possible for blood to be shed (resulting in the loss of a life) for the forgiveness of sin, as God required.
