I would say that this is done today by figuratively walking out of the spiritual darkness of sin or unbelief, and into the light of life, by appropriating through faith in Jesus the salvation that He made possible by His atoning death and resurrection. The references to the fountain of life and to light are foreshadowings of Jesus' discussion with the Samaritan woman at the well in Sychar (as discussed in John 4:1-42), where He referred to the "living water" that He would give to those who asked Him; and also of the imagery in Revelation 21:22-22:5, where John said that the new Jerusalem that he saw in his vision had no need of an external light source because the glory of God was its light, and where John saw the river of the water of life flowing from the throne of God.
