After checking various bible versions, the one that seemed most clear to me was from the GNB Good News Bible. Deut. 14:1 says (in the GNB) " You are the people of the LORD your God. So when you mourn for the dead, don't gash yourselves or shave the front of your head, as other people do." I think this explains the question "What is wrong with shaving?" Our Lord does not agree with pagan rituals.
