The bigger question is whether angels are just automatons, or do they have unique spirit identities? For a soul is nothing but a physical body bound to spiritual entity. All spirit comes from God and He determines whether what comes of that entity upon it's return to His presence. Automatons are essentially spirit-less mechanizations that serve a design and programed function, however simple or complex it may be. Automatons may mimic wisdom, spirit, and even intelligence, but they are inert when they are turned off.
