In my opinion, angels were created by God as immortal spirit beings. They do not have a physical component, as humans do (although they are capable of assuming or appearing in both visible forms (as Gabriel did with Zechariah (Luke 1:11-20) and Mary (Luke 1:26-38), or as the angels did with the shepherds at Jesus' birth (Luke 2:8-14), for example), as well as human forms (as angels did with Abraham in Genesis 18 and Lot in Genesis 19)). Therefore, they do not have an additional immaterial component (such as a soul or a spirit) that humans possess. They are spirit by nature. Even the rebellion of Satan and those angels who followed him did not result in loss of their immortality (as it did with humans when they fell into sin). Satan and his fallen angels are still immortal beings (as shown by the fact that they will be consigned to eternal torment at the Last Judgment (Matthew 25:41; Revelation 20:10)).
