My son, a if you become surety for your friend,
If you have shaken hands in pledge for a stranger,
You are snared by the words of your mouth;
You are taken by the words of your mouth.
So do this, my son, and deliver yourself;
For you have come into the hand of your friend:
Go and humble yourself;
Plead with your friend.
b Give no sleep to your eyes,
Nor slumber to your eyelids.
Deliver yourself like a gazelle from the hand of the hunter,
And like a bird from the hand of the fowler.
c Go to the ant, you sluggard!
Consider her ways and be wise,
Which, having no captain,
Overseer or ruler,
Provides her supplies in the summer,
And gathers her food in the harvest.
d How long will you slumber, O sluggard?
When will you rise from your sleep?
A little sleep, a little slumber,
A little folding of the hands to sleep -
e So shall your poverty come on you like a prowler,
And your need like an armed man.
A worthless person, a wicked man,
Walks with a perverse mouth;
f He winks with his eyes,
He shuffles his feet,
He points with his fingers;
Perversity is in his heart,
g He devises evil continually,
h He sows discord.
Therefore his calamity shall come i suddenly;
Suddenly he shall j be broken k without remedy.
These six things the LORD hates,
Yes, seven are an abomination to Him:
l A proud look,
m A lying tongue,
n Hands that shed innocent blood,
o A heart that devises wicked plans,
p Feet that are swift in running to evil,
q A false witness who speaks lies,
And one who r sows discord among brethren.
s My son, keep your father's command,
And do not forsake the law of your mother.
t Bind them continually upon your heart;
Tie them around your neck.
u When you roam, they will lead you;
When you sleep, v they will keep you;
And when you awake, they will speak with you.
w For the commandment is a lamp,
And the law a light;
Reproofs of instruction are the way of life,
x To keep you from the evil woman,
From the flattering tongue of a seductress.
y Do not lust after her beauty in your heart,
Nor let her allure you with her eyelids.
For z by means of a harlot
A man is reduced to a crust of bread;
a And an adulteress will b prey upon his precious life.
Can a man take fire to his bosom,
And his clothes not be burned?
Can one walk on hot coals,
And his feet not be seared?
So is he who goes in to his neighbor's wife;
Whoever touches her shall not be innocent.
People do not despise a thief
If he steals to satisfy himself when he is starving.
Yet when he is found, c he must restore sevenfold;
He may have to give up all the substance of his house.
Whoever commits adultery with a woman d lacks understanding;
He who does so destroys his own soul.
Wounds and dishonor he will get,
And his reproach will not be wiped away.
For e jealousy is a husband's fury;
Therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance.
He will accept no recompense,
Nor will he be appeased though you give many gifts.

He who is surety for a stranger will suffer, But one who hates being surety is secure.
I will not give sleep to my eyes Or slumber to my eyelids.
But now ask the beasts, and they will teach you; And the birds of the air, and they will tell you.
A little sleep, a little slumber, A little folding of the hands to rest.
So shall your poverty come like a prowler, And your need like an armed man.
He who has a slack hand becomes poor, But the hand of the diligent makes rich.
Why does your heart carry you away, And what do your eyes wink at.
Let them not rejoice over me who are wrongfully my enemies; Nor let them wink with the eye who hate me without a cause.
He who winks with the eye causes trouble, But a prating fool will fall.
Do not devise evil against your neighbor, For he dwells by you for safety's sake.
Woe to those who devise iniquity, And work out evil on their beds! At morning light they practice it, Because it is in the power of their hand.
A false witness who speaks lies, And one who sows discord among brethren.
For their calamity will rise suddenly, And who knows the ruin those two can bring?
Therefore this iniquity shall be to you Like a breach ready to fall, A bulge in a high wall, Whose breaking comes suddenly, in an instant.
1 Thessalonians 5:3
For when they say, "Peace and safety!" then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape.
And say to them, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts: "Even so I will break this people and this city, as one breaks a potter's vessel, which cannot be made whole again; and they shall bury them in Tophet till there is no place to bury.
2 Chronicles 36:16
But they mocked the messengers of God, despised His words, and scoffed at His prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against His people, till there was no remedy.
Whoever secretly slanders his neighbor, Him I will destroy; The one who has a haughty look and a proud heart, Him I will not endure.
A haughty look, a proud heart, And the plowing of the wicked are sin.
Deliver my soul, O LORD, from lying lips And from a deceitful tongue.
Lying lips are an abomination to the LORD, But those who deal truthfully are His delight.
Lest innocent blood be shed in the midst of your land which the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance, and thus guilt of bloodshed be upon you.
A man burdened with bloodshed will flee into a pit; Let no one help him.
When you spread out your hands, I will hide My eyes from you; Even though you make many prayers, I will not hear. Your hands are full of blood.

But Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, said, "Look, my master has spared Naaman this Syrian, while not receiving from his hands what he brought; but as the LORD lives, I will run after him and take something from him.
Their feet run to evil, And they make haste to shed innocent blood; Their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity; Wasting and destruction are in their paths.
Their feet are swift to shed blood.
Do not deliver me to the will of my adversaries; For false witnesses have risen against me, And such as breathe out violence.
A false witness will not go unpunished, And he who speaks lies will not escape.
A false witness will not go unpunished, And he who speaks lies shall perish.
Matthew 26:59 - 66
Now the chief priests, the elders, and all the council sought false testimony against Jesus to put Him to death.
Perversity is in his heart, He devises evil continually, He sows discord.
1 Corinthians 1:11 - 13
For it has been declared to me concerning you, my brethren, by those of Chloe's household, that there are contentions among you.
Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.
Let not mercy and truth forsake you; Bind them around your neck, Write them on the tablet of your heart.
Then you will walk safely in your way, And your foot will not stumble.
Discretion will preserve you; Understanding will keep you.
The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.
2 Peter 1:19
And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.
To deliver you from the immoral woman, From the seductress who flatters with her words.
But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
Whoever loves wisdom makes his father rejoice, But a companion of harlots wastes his wealth.
That she called to the men of her house and spoke to them, saying, "See, he has brought in to us a Hebrew to mock us. He came in to me to lie with me, and I cried out with a loud voice.
And say, 'Thus says the Lord GOD: "Woe to the women who sew magic charms on their sleeves and make veils for the heads of people of every height to hunt souls! Will you hunt the souls of My people, and keep yourselves alive?
Exodus 22:1 - 4
If a man steals an ox or a sheep, and slaughters it or sells it, he shall restore five oxen for an ox and four sheep for a sheep.
And saw among the simple, I perceived among the youths, A young man devoid of understanding.
Wrath is cruel and anger a torrent, But who is able to stand before jealousy?
Song of Solomon 8:6
Set me as a seal upon your heart, As a seal upon your arm; For love is as strong as death, Jealousy as cruel as the grave; Its flames are flames of fire, A most vehement flame.
