To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David.
Hear my voice, O God, in my m complaint;
preserve my life from dread of the enemy.
Hide me from n the secret plots of the wicked,
from the throng of evildoers,
who o whet their tongues like swords,
who p aim bitter words like arrows,
shooting from q ambush at the blameless,
shooting at him suddenly and r without fear.
They s hold fast to their evil purpose;
they talk of t laying snares secretly,
thinking, u "Who can see them?"
They search out injustice,
saying, "We have accomplished a diligent search."
For v the inward mind and heart of a man are deep!
w But God shoots his arrow at them;
they are wounded suddenly.
They are brought to ruin, with their own x tongues turned against them;
all who y see them will z wag their heads.
Then all mankind y fears;
they a tell what God has brought about
and ponder what he has done.
Let b the righteous one rejoice in the Lord
and c take refuge in him!
Let all d the upright in heart exult!

Attend to me, and answer me; I am restless in my complaint and I moan.
We used to take sweet counsel together; within God's house we walked in the throng.
My soul is in the midst of lions; I lie down amid fiery beasts - the children of man, whose teeth are spears and arrows, whose tongues are sharp swords.
For behold, the wicked bend the bow; they have fitted their arrow to the string to shoot in the dark at the upright in heart.
He sits in ambush in the villages; in hiding places he murders the innocent. His eyes stealthily watch for the helpless.
God will give ear and humble them, he who is enthroned from of old, Selah because they do not change and do not fear God.
But in the prophets of Jerusalem I have seen a horrible thing: they commit adultery and walk in lies; they strengthen the hands of evildoers, so that no one turns from his evil; all of them have become like Sodom to me, and its inhabitants like Gomorrah.
Because you have disheartened the righteous falsely, although I have not grieved him, and you have encouraged the wicked, that he should not turn from his evil way to save his life.
The arrogant have hidden a trap for me, and with cords they have spread a net; beside the way they have set snares for me. Selah
But you say, 'What does God know? Can he judge through the deep darkness?
Their graves are their homes forever, their dwelling places to all generations, though they called lands by their own names.
Psalms 7:12 - 13
If a man does not repent, God will whet his sword; he has bent and readied his bow.
Let them vanish like water that runs away; when he aims his arrows, let them be blunted.
An evil man is ensnared by the transgression of his lips, but the righteous escapes from trouble.
A fool's mouth is his ruin, and his lips are a snare to his soul.
He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the Lord.
Making their land a horror, a thing to be hissed at forever. Everyone who passes by it is horrified and shakes his head.
Was not Israel a derision to you? Was he found among thieves, that whenever you spoke of him you wagged your head?
All who see me mock me; they make mouths at me; they wag their heads.
They are brought to ruin, with their own tongues turned against them; all who see them will wag their heads.
A voice! They flee and escape from the land of Babylon, to declare in Zion the vengeance of the Lord our God, vengeance for his temple.
The Lord has brought about our vindication; come, let us declare in Zion the work of the Lord our God.
Be glad in the Lord, and rejoice, O righteous, and shout for joy, all you upright in heart!
The righteous see it and are glad; the innocent one mocks at them.
In the Lord I take refuge; how can you say to my soul, "Flee like a bird to your mountain.
My shield is with God, who saves the upright in heart.
