To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David.
y Deliver me, O Lord, from evil men;
preserve me from z violent men,
who plan evil things in their heart
and a stir up wars continually.
They make b their tongue sharp as c a serpent's,
and d under their lips is the e venom of asps. Selah
Guard me, O Lord, from the hands of the wicked;
preserve me from z violent men,
who have planned to trip up my feet.
The arrogant have f hidden a trap for me,
and with cords they have spread g a net;
beside the way they have set h snares for me. Selah
i I say to the Lord, You are my God;
give ear to j the voice of my pleas for mercy, O Lord!
O Lord, my Lord, k the strength of my salvation,
you have covered my head in the day of battle.
l Grant not, O Lord, the desires of the wicked;
do not further their evil plot, or m they will be exalted! Selah
As for the head of those who surround me,
let n the mischief of their lips overwhelm them!
Let o burning coals fall upon them!
Let them be cast into fire,
into miry pits, no more to rise!
Let not the slanderer be established in the land;
let evil hunt down the violent man speedily!
I know that the Lord will p maintain the cause of the afflicted,
and q will execute justice for the needy.
Surely r the righteous shall give thanks to your name;
s the upright shall dwell in your presence.

Rescue me, O my God, from the hand of the wicked, from the grasp of the unjust and cruel man.
Look on my affliction and deliver me, for I do not forget your law.
Let my plea come before you; deliver me according to your word.
Who delivered me from my enemies; yes, you exalted me above those who rose against me; you rescued me from the man of violence.
Do not envy a man of violence and do not choose any of his ways.
They stir up strife, they lurk; they watch my steps, as they have waited for my life.
Your tongue plots destruction, like a sharp razor, you worker of deceit.
They have venom like the venom of a serpent, like the deaf adder that stops its ear.
His mouth is filled with cursing and deceit and oppression; under his tongue are mischief and iniquity.
"Their throat is an open grave; they use their tongues to deceive." "The venom of asps is under their lips."
Deliver me, O Lord, from evil men; preserve me from violent men.
For without cause they hid their net for me; without cause they dug a pit for my life.
Keep me from the trap that they have laid for me and from the snares of evildoers!
When my spirit faints within me, you know my way! In the path where I walk they have hidden a trap for me.
May a cry be heard from their houses, when you bring the plunderer suddenly upon them! For they have dug a pit to take me and laid snares for my feet.
Job 18:8 - 10
For he is cast into a net by his own feet, and he walks on its mesh.
They hold fast to their evil purpose; they talk of laying snares secretly, thinking, "Who can see them?
I cry to you, O Lord ; I say, "You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.
Hear the voice of my pleas for mercy, when I cry to you for help, when I lift up my hands toward your most holy sanctuary.
I had said in my alarm, "I am cut off from your sight." But you heard the voice of my pleas for mercy when I cried to you for help.
O Lord, hear my voice! Let your ears be attentive to the voice of my pleas for mercy!
The Lord is the strength of his people; he is the saving refuge of his anointed.
Let them not say in their hearts, "Aha, our heart's desire!" Let them not say, "We have swallowed him up.
Prepare slaughter for his sons because of the guilt of their fathers, lest they rise and possess the earth, and fill the face of the world with cities.
An evil man is ensnared by the transgression of his lips, but the righteous escapes from trouble.
A fool's mouth is his ruin, and his lips are a snare to his soul.
His mischief returns upon his own head, and on his own skull his violence descends.
Let him rain coals on the wicked; fire and sulfur and a scorching wind shall be the portion of their cup.
The Lord also thundered in the heavens, and the Most High uttered his voice, hailstones and coals of fire.
For you have maintained my just cause; you have sat on the throne, giving righteous judgment.
1 Kings 8:45
Then hear in heaven their prayer and their plea, and maintain their cause.
1 Kings 8:49
Then hear in heaven your dwelling place their prayer and their plea, and maintain their cause
1 Kings 8:59
Let these words of mine, with which I have pleaded before the Lord, be near to the Lord our God day and night, and may he maintain the cause of his servant and the cause of his people Israel, as each day requires.
Let the righteous one rejoice in the Lord and take refuge in him! Let all the upright in heart exult!
For the Lord is righteous; he loves righteous deeds; the upright shall behold his face.
