Why did Moses put blood on Aaron's right ear lobe, thumb, and the big toe of his right foot?

ESV - 28 And the priest shall put some of the oil that is in his hand on the lobe of the right ear of him who is to be cleansed and on the thumb of his right hand and on the big toe of his right foot, in the place where the blood of the guilt offering was put.

This question is so beautiful. We should ask for these same things from God today! 1Pet 2:9 In Lev 8:1-36, Moses was instructed by God to consecrate the High Priest, Aaron, and his sons for their duties in the tabernacle. The entire congregation was assembled, the priest were washed in the Laver (baptized), they were sanctified, dressed in the Holy garments of the Priesthood. The High Priest wore the Urim and Thummim. They were anointed with oil until it ran down their beards. (Ps 133:1,2), Then Moses began to sacrifice animals and use the blood from the animals as God had commanded him. It was put on the horns of the Brazen Altar with his finger, poured around the Altar, some of it was sprinkled. However, the ram of consecration, was a bit different. Aaron and his sons laid their hands on its head, then Moses slew the animal. The blood was collected. Moses then put some on the right ear, right thumb and right great toe of Aaron and his sons, the rest of the blood was sprinkled on the Altar. The remainder of the sacrifice was offered to God with a piece of unleavened Bread, a piece of leavened Bread, and a small cake. Each sacrifice was a picture, shadow, and type of the more perfect Sacrifice our Lord Jesus Christ. (Heb 9:1-14) The question has been raised, why was the blood applied? It signified the Consecration of Aaron and his sons. It was applied to the right side as this is a sign of power and strength. (Ex 15:6, 1Ki 2:19, Ps 16:11, Ps 17:7, Ps 18:25, Ps 20:6, Ps 48:10, Ps 63:8, Ps 110:1, Ecc10:2, Isa 41:10, Isa 41:13, Isa 48:13, Isa 62:8, Mat 26:64, Acts 2:33, Acts 7:55,56) Why then to the ear? The ear is for listening. How many times did God tell Moses and Aaron to do things that seemed unreal? An example would be: Pick up from an oasis with 70 palm trees, plenty of water and move 600,000 men plus women, children and cattle to the middle of the desert."Did I hear that right, God? Really?" Yes! Why? To prove God's amazing Power, Love and Mercy! He gave them water out of a ROCK! That Rock was Christ! (1Cor 10:4) We need Blood of Jesus on our own ears so we can listen to God! Why was it applied to the right thumb? The hand speaks of two things. First, it speaks of Worship. Second, it speaks of Service. Certainly as Priestly ministers they must remember that the SERVICE they are conducting IS WORSHIP to GOD! Too many times this is forgotten and the Service overshadows the True Worship! We NEED the Blood of Jesus applied to our right thumb! Why was it applied to the right great toe? The foot speaks of walking. It is a proven fact that you are horribly crippled if you permanently lose your great toe. You can not walk a straight line. Aaron needed sure footing in the Tabernacle. So does God's people today! At the installation of the priesthood in Israel, Moses was commanded to take some of the blood of the ram of the installation and put it on the lobe of the right ear of Aaron and of each of his sons, as well as on the right hand and right foot, indicating that what they listened to, the work they did, and the way they walked should be directly affected by what was there taking place. (Le 8:22-24) Similarly, in the case of the cleansed leper, the Law said that the priest was to put some of the blood of the ram offered as a guilt offering, as well as some of the oil offered, on the lobe of the leper’s right ear. (Le 14:14, 17, 25, 28) An arrangement of comparable nature was found in the provision made for the man who wished to continue in slavery to his master to time indefinite. In such case the slave was to be brought to the doorpost, and his master was to pierce his ear through with an awl. This prominent mark, being made on the organ for hearing, evidently represented the slave’s desire to continue in obedient attention to his master.—Ex 21:5, 6.

Great question, bel loh! Salvation (Leviticus 14:1-32). See Warren Wiersbe’s Comments or, "FROM RAGS TO RICHES" is how I would title this event. "The unique thing about this ceremony is that the priest treated the cleansed leper like a fellow priest! He put the blood of the trespass offering on the man’s right ear, right thumb, and right big toe. He sprinkled oil on the man 7 times and then put the oil on the blood that was already on his ear, thumb, and toe. “After that, he poured oil on the man’s head. This is similar to the ceremony Moses used when he ordained Aaron and his sons (Leviticus 8). What grace that God should treat a former leper like a priest!" —Wiersbe It’s worth noting that God doesn’t put the anointing oil on man’s flesh but on the blood. The Holy Spirit goes only where the blood has been applied.
