Is there any evidence (historical or geological) that the flood actually happened?

Yes, even the Ark has been found and under national protection by the Turkish government. There even more evidence geologically as well as literary sources outside the Bible that support the biblical narrative.

There is some doubt about whether the ark-shaped feature in the Noah's Ark National Park in Turkey is actually the remains of Noah's ship or simply a geological formation caused by slumping after an earthquake. No traces of wood have been found within this formation.

There are however large slabs of flat rock in the vicinity of the Mountains of Ararat, often used as tombstones. These are however much larger than normal gravestones need to be. They also have a hole drilled through the top end of the slab. It has been suggested that these could well be drag-stones that were used by Noah to stabilise the Ark when there were swirling currents all around it - like sea-anchors used by small craft at sea today. The Ark had no motors or sails, so in order to stop it turning round and round and bobbing about too much, such large stones would have kept it steady and stable. For me this does seem to be a physical evidence of the historicity of Noah's Ark.

All of these responses have been incredibly helpful. It surprises me as to how much evidence there is for this, and yet it is so often dismissed as a myth by society and media.

I agree.
Atheist: Oh, you don't believe in evolution; you must be so brain-washed.
Me (note that I am neutral on this subject): Why do you believe in this?
Atheist: *Pauses and either: pretends that I am stupid or tries to answer the question.*
In actual fact, he only believes it because someone told him that it's true.

The remains found on Ararat are the exact dimensions specified in the Bible. There is no doubt that it is a ship as rib and plank structure etc. is discernable. The wood has been petrified. The artifact slid about a thousand feet down the hillside in the early 1800s(?) and has been known to the locals as Noah's Ark for a very long time. Those large stones with holes in them found nearby are indeed sea anchors.

There is a long article on the Answers in Genesis site that details all the claims for this feature and why they do not stand close scrutiny.
