I believe that the uncontrollable crying that you experienced while praying was what the Bible refers to as the Spirit of Intercession. Romans 8:26 says "And in like manner the Spirit joins also its help to our weakness; for we do not know what we should pray for as is fitting, but the Spirit itself makes intercession with groanings which cannot be uttered." 

When we experience that deep sense of groaning, or crying out, to a deeper degree and level than our minds can comprehend, this is a work of God's Spirit, touching our spirit, joining together on behalf of the situation at hand. In our weakness, we often do not know how to intelligently pray for a situation, but God's Spirit lends assistance to us. This is when we know that we are praying in the mind of Christ and His will, not our own will.

Paul encouraged his young peer Timothy, in 1 Timothy 2:1, "I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;" Prayers of intercession are often refered to as, 'standing in the gap', on behalf of another person or situation. When we allow ourselves to be used to interceed on the behalf of another, we are placing ourselves between the circumstance and what we believe God would want in the situation.

Abraham interceeded with God for Sodom. God called Abraham 'His friend'. And of course, Jesus is our perfect intercessor as Hebrews 7:25 says, "Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them." When we interceed, along with the Spirit of Jesus, we are doing His work, His way.

You were over-whelmed with the Holy Spirit. Don't do what most people do though, and go to church/pray just to feel it. Unless it changes you, it is meaningless. Let it take effect, and without realising, you will change, and be more like Jesus. I would recommend James for this.

Additionally, you may receive various gifts, which will help you for what God has called you to do. We are all called by God to do different things, but all for the same purpose (1 Corinthians ch 12). Be lead by the Spirit, and you may receive the Gift of: Tongues (speaking in languages you can't speak, or a heavenly language to God in private (this gift is especially good for bringing up your faith)), interpreting tongues, discerning false-teachers and prophets, prophecy (proclaiming in God's name, being able to speak of Him, regardless of being a good speaker), faith (hope), wisdom (being able to be given words/guidance from God which is apply-able to people's lives (this gift is very good for guiding others)), healing (often with emotional pain, but also physically (very good for demonstrating the power of God)), miracles, but most importantly, love.

It means that you needed comfort. It means that, despite all the strengths you show throughout your day, this was the time you needed strengthening. It shows that your heart was truly humble in approaching God.

There is no shame in tears during our prayers. We are all pushed to the limit by what's going on in the world (2 Tim. 3:1-5), so it makes sense that in our quiet times in communication with our loving Father we would inevitably break down.

If you are hurt by the circumstances in your life, rest assured that your Heavenly Father feels it even more so. He is saddened by the plight of mankind... however, that just one person bent a knee and took the time to talk with Him makes his heart rejoice.

You are a good child. Never forget that.
