Did Satan know about eternal pit of sulphur and fire when he decided against a relationship with God?
If he did, why did he choose agony over love?

Dearest Angela, It could be that Lucifer did not think of Hell, as he could have been blinded by his desire, greed for power. In the Book of Ezekiel, the 28th chapter, you will find a description of a king (King of Tyre) that many Bible scholars believe to be a description of satan whom was the Archangel, named Lucifer, when God created him. It is painful to think of one of God The Father's beloved creations choosing such an evil over Eternal Love. This angel had known the glory of God's favor, yet he turned his back on all the Lord Almighty had made for and granted him. Surely this is a devastating thought and very deep, why was evil found in him and where did this evil come from? Precious daughter, The Lord Jesus, Himself, was there at the creation of all (Book of 1 John, chapter 1) and all things were created by Him. He also spoke of seeing satan falling from Heaven as lightening in the Book of Luke, chapter 10, verses 17 and 18. This is a very powerful chapter and gives much insight into the Lord Jesus' will concerning what should be our understanding of the war between God's Kingdom and evil. Though we were not there when these things happened, we can be assured that, Jesus will show us all that we can know, He says to ask for wisdom,in the book of James, from God and he will give this to you. It is both good and wise to count the cost, for each step we take to The Lord God, The Father of Our Lord Jesus Christ, so that we may be good soldiers in Jesus army. Trust in Jesus Love and provision dear, He has not failed you and never will, someday, if you stay true to Him you will know the answers to all these questions that you feel.

I agree with Michele's answer. I will add that from satan's character we see a deceiver and one who is proud. As it is written: Pride comes before a fall. Proverbs 16:18 Just because he fell doesn't mean that pride left him. He is still full of pride and he is still deceitful. A downfall of the deceitful is that the deceitful is also deceived in his heart. He had to know about the pit. A flaw with the prideful is that he never believes he would be punished for anything. He feels he is his own god and he is the one who should have the last word in a situation. So, satan, through his own deceived heart, deceit and pride fell. He still thinks he can fight a war against the King of Kings in the last day and win. Wow! That's really being deceived!

Remember too that God created hell for Satan and his fallen "angels", Jesus has said in many revelations about hell that it was never created for man but for Lucifer and his fallen comrades.
