God does care about the starving children in the world. He first raised up the nation of Israel and then established the Christian church on earth to show by word and example that He cares deeply about the needs of the poor and has sent his people to meet those needs. The fact that there are still millions of starving children in the world is a testament to the depravity of human beings, who, through greed and selfishness, refuse to do their part to alleviate poverty and starvation. Many of the relief efforts in the world today, that are providing food for the starving people, are Christian relief organizations or they are following Christian principles of charity and generosity embedded in the Judeo-Christian beliefs of the Western industrialized world.

The bible gives us a vivid picture of God’s heart of love and compassion to the starving children of this world and his commandments to his people to take care of the poor in the world. Here are some examples:
1) During the seventh year let the land lie unplowed and unused. Then the poor among your people may get food from it, and the wild animals may eat what is left. Do the same with your vineyard and olive grove. (Exodus 23:11)
2) There need be no poor people among you, for in the land the Lord your God is giving you to possess as your inheritance, he will richly bless you, if only you fully obey the Lord your God and are careful to follow all these commands I am giving you today (Deuteronomy 15:4-5)
3) There will always be poor people in the land. Therefore, I command you to be openhanded toward your fellow Israelites who are poor and needy in the land (Deuteronomy 15:11)
4) Do not take advantage of a hired worker who is poor and needy, whether that worker is a fellow Israelite or a foreigner residing in one of your towns. Pay them their wages each day before sunset, because they are poor and are counting on it. (Deuteronomy 24:14-15)
5) We are mortgaging our fields, our vineyards and our homes to get food during the famine…. We have had to borrow money to pay the king’s tax on our fields and vineyards…we have to subject our sons and daughters to slavery… we are powerless because our fields and vineyards belong to others…When I [Nehemiah] heard the outcry and these charges, I was very angry… I pondered them in my mind and then accused the nobles and officials…What you are doing is not right. Shouldn’t you walk in the fear of our God… Give back to them immediately their fields, vineyards, olive groves and houses, and also the interest you are charging them… We will do as you say (Nehemiah 5: 1-12)
6) Because I rescued the poor who cried for help, and the fatherless who had no one to assist them…. I was eyes to the blind and feet to the lame. I was a father to the needy; I took up the case of the stranger (Job 29:12,15-16)
7) Because the poor are plundered and the needy groan, I will now arise, says the Lord. I will protect them from those who malign them. (Psalm 12:5)
Defend the weak ad the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed. Rescue the weak and the needy, deliver them from the hand of the wicked (Psalm 82:4-5)
8) I know the Lord secures justice for the poor and upholds the cause of the needy (Psalm 140:12)
9) Whoever oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honors God (Proverbs 14:31)
10) Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done (Proverbs 19:17)

God’s heart is full of love and compassion for the poor and starving children of the world and he is doing something about it through his church on earth.
