There are two issues involved in this question, the things that the Bible specifically mentions and declares to be sin and those the Bible does not directly address. Scriptural lists of various sin...

This question is of critical relevance in today's Christian world.

Now, if you read the bible, you'll make some interesting observations. For example, 1 Samuel 14:30 talks of plunder taken from the Philistines, yet in the next chapter, Saul is rejected FOR taking plunder!

The Ark represented God, but ANY OTHER image constitutes the sin of idolatry.

So how do we know where to draw the line?
Isaiah 8:20.

We check the Book. There God's defined what constitutes sin, and what He accepts. 1 John 3:4 KJV.

To throw away that standard ranks among the worst acts of folly anyone can possibly do.

Know the Word, because against it you must check your conduct. We don't have an alternative way. Don't let anyone deceive you by hollow and deceptive philosophy.

Bless.

The bible is full of answers, ones we do and don't want to hear, but there His answers. Sin is committing a crime against Gods law in some way big or small. The closer we are to God, the more we hate and recognize our sin. So the only way to know were sinning is by the word of the bible, or by conviction of the Holy Spirit. (Which is apart of God, so all he says comes from the bible.)

If you feel in your spirit it is wrong then don't do it You can also ask God to show you in His word if it is wrong to you. Religious or legalistic people will make it sound as if everything is a sin so you will want to use caution with these kinds of people.

To be sin conscience is not necessary, but being sensitive to the Holy Spirit is;

Heb 10:2 For then would they not have ceased to be offered? For the worshipers, once purified, would have had no more consciousness of sins NKJV

Just relax have fun and you'll be okay. <:)

The Ten Commandments were given to us as a guide of how we can live a holy life pleasing to God. We all know that when we love someone (a parent, child or spouse), we express our love through our behavior.

God is our creator and redeemer and wants us to love him and express our love through obedience to His Commandments (John 14:15).

The first four of the Ten Commandments deals with our relation with God; while the last six, are directed towards each other. Thus any of our actions or thoughts that are in conflict with the Ten Commandments, we can be confident that it is a sin; either against God or each other.

Some believe that there are degrees of sin and some sins ore more acceptable than others, while certain sins are extremely detestable. That in some respect could be true, as lying on a resume cannot be as bad as killing your neighbor; however, James 2:10 disagrees with that notion.

Others believe that keeping the Commandants is legalism and not necessary anymore because we live under grace. And even if we want to keep the law, that would be impossible. That also sounds reasonable, as we indeed live under grace, but as Paul tells us, because we live under grace should be free of sin (Romans 6:14-15).

The Bible says that in Christ we can have victory over sin (Philippians 4:13; Hebrews 2:18). God wants to give us power over sin: Paul in Romans 6 makes is abundantly clear that in Christ we can be victorious.

Please also read:
1 Corinthians 15:57 “But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

1 John 5:4 “For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.”

Philippians 2:5 “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus.”

2 Corinthians 5:21 “… that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”

1 John 3:6 “Whatsoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.”

1 John 2:1 "My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous One. "

If you don't know for sure but you think someone might think you would be sinning by what you are about to do, consider: Abstain from all appearance of evil - Sin not, and avoid even the appearance of it.
