Is sin a sin if I didn’t know it was a sin?

Hebrews 10:26 - 27

ESV - 26 For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins. 27 But a fearful expectation of judgment, and a fury of fire that will consume the adversaries.

Hebrews 10:26 - 27:

If you will read the entire scripture in chapter ten you will see the writer is addressing the Hebrews. The Hebrews observed the offering once a year for their sins. The writer is explaining to them that once they become knowledgeable to the truth in Christ the sacrificing they were doing every year did nothing.

Go back and read the chapter in its entirety. You will see the writer is explaining the difference in observing the Law versus Christ.

Is sin a sin if I did not know that it was sin?

Yes, sin is a sin whether we are conscious about it or not. My view is that God's objective standards cannot be mitigated or nullified by our ignorance. Sin is a transgression against God's moral code and must be atoned. Every society in all human civilizations had a moral code whether written or not, and God would judge people in those civilizations based on this code.

For believers in Jesus Christ, Scripture is our guide on what constitutes sin. If one was unaware that a certain act or omission constituted sin, and gets to know about it, they should repent and God would forgive them. The Holy Spirit convicts us of sin and we should submit to His admonition in truth (John 14:12-31).

If a believer is aware that a certain act or omission is sin but knowingly violates God's word, they stand in condemnation until and unless they repent (1 John 1:8-10). We should be guided by a clear conscience in our walk with God. The Bible proclaims that whatever is not from faith is sin (Romans 14:22-23). We learn from 1 John 3:6 that whoever abides in Him does not sin. This does not suggest that a believer dwells in pristine perfection but that he does not wallow in habitual sin.

Mini Bob Reese Bob. Sometimes failing to apply the truth in action.
If you sin without knowing what you’re doing, God takes that into account. But if you sin knowing full well what you’re doing, or have a momentary reconsideration, that’s a different story entirely. Merely hearing God’s law is a waste of your time if you don’t do what he commands. Doing, not hearing, is what makes the difference with God Romans 2 12-16: "They show that what the law requires is written on their hearts. The way their minds judge them proves this fact."

Yes, it is! So, give God thanks for the forgiveness that He gave the world through Jesus Christ and His shed blood at the cross for the sufficient payment of ALL of our sins!

1 Cor 15:57
"But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ."

2 Cor 5:19
"To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation."

Rom 5:8-11
"But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.
11 And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement."

Col 1:12-14
"Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:
13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:"

Rom 3:25
"Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;"

Believe that you were forgiven of ALL of your sins that day on the cross, when Christ defeated sin and death for us all on day three. Believe this and receive God's free gift of ETERNAL salvation!

1 Cor 15:1-4
"Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:"

Eph 1:12-13
"That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.
13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,"

Eph 4:30
"And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption."

Gal 5:1-6
"Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.
2 Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing.
3 For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law.
4 Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.
5 For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.
6 For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love."

2 Cor 13:11
"Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you."
