Bible memorization is so important because when you are in need of a refreshing word or are in need of an encouraging word and no one is around to comfort you. The Holy Spirit will allow the memorized word that you have retained and studied spring up out of you belly to your mind to encourage you when you need it the most. (John 4:14). On another note memorization is important because when you are witnessing instead of bringing out your big gigantic bible you can quote the scriptures from your memory and the person being witness to can look up the scriptures later. Therefore you can impart more into them oppose to tussling with your bible.

I submit for your consideration different reasons build on the Excellent post of brother Michael Houdmann, why study and memorize God's Word. The first pillar of a totalitarian state is to remove of all means the victims have to defend themselves against the state! The second pillar is the removal of all materials that do not promote the state! I would submit it's the second pillar that presents the most danger to the state, the freely held thoughts and moral percepts that are separate from those the state wishes to impose. The true battlefield is within the minds of those would be victims, some of whom reject the deception and premiss of victim hood as the only option! First and foremost one needs to have the mind of Christ embedded in himself before one clears the deck for action, so very quickly tribulations come upon human kind. Weapons or arms can always be fashioned from scrap metal and fire for the impalement arts or employ king David's use of smooth stones and a sling! During world war two in the occupied lands as in the camps all scripture was verboten, Rabbis and others would sew pieces within their clothes. Most would memorize, an interesting overlooked fact is that those with some religious foundation survived at a higher percentage rate than those with a secular foundation! More recently in our world brothers and sisters are routinely murdered, just last week in North Korea thirty souls were executed, their high crime possessing Bibles. Do a lab experiment send your child to his secular public school with a visible pocket new testament or a Christian t shirt. The ensuing caterwauling from the propagators of tolerance should not surprise you, it's the same as having a loaded cookie that resembles a gun to them. Consider forgetting your ten pounds of reference materials or having a dead electric machine as you rush to the bedside of a loved one. Perhaps for the last time this side of eternity, or the horrific traffic accident where you hold the hand of someone's precious treasure as they expire! What great Words of comfort can you give to them, but those that you carry in your heart...............warrior on

We should never assume that we will always have access to a Bible. Especially in the U.S., with the push for "tolerance" of all lifestyle choices, the Bible will be labeled hate literature for its stance on homosexuality. Expect God's word to be banned. The only Bible you may have someday is what you have memorized.

Memorizing means to keep the word of God in mind to feed soul & spirit; to use in our faith for living in relationship with Jesus. It is a self talking guide to a person to any situation. Scripture is lamp for our feet. It is a promise and consoling of our hearts that bring us close to God almighty. It gives a bench mark for judging the worldly things that can harm us. It gives many reference to do right in the eyes of God for his grace and companionship. It doesn't allow the body be hacked by foreign elements or deceived by talk or anything, as living with the word in mind lets us find the answers to our questions within the living word of God. Scripture is a powerful weapon and shield against evil forces, whether it is irreligious persons or Satan, allowing us to defend and to fight back. The Holy spirit helps us in our agony to convey to God our prayers and needs, due to the word, and gives hope to continue in faith. Lastly, memorizing scripture is one of the fundamental needs of a Christian to grow in Christ.

Scripture memory benefits you by: cleansing and renewing your mind; keeping you from sin; providing insight and direction in the midst of real-life situations; strengthening your spirit; combating the attacks of the Enemy on your mind and emotions; stimulating spiritual desires; diminishing the flesh's demands; protecting you from wrong thinking patterns; and fixing your mind and affections on "things above" (Colossians 3:2 -- "Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth."). In addition, memorizing Scripture leads to: strength (Psa. 119:92) fruitfulness (Psa. 1:2-3 -- 2 "but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. 3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.") peace (Psa. 119:165 -- "Great peace have those who love your law; nothing can make them stumble.") obedience (Psa. 119:11 -- "I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.") improved prayer (John 15:7 -- "If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.") faith (Rom. 10:17 -- "So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ."). John MacArthur I am reminded of how Jesus used the Word to defeat Satan when he was tempted in the desert, and how he used scripture references during His ministry without the use of scrolls except the one time when he read from them in the temple in Nazareth, reading about himself. Then He said, "Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing." Luke 4:18,19,21 Surely Jesus knew all the scriptures by heart, including of Isaiah 61:1,2 which he read that day. Being surrounded by the words of scripture bring peace in a hectic world. Psalm 32:1,2 and all of Psalm 51 are just two fine examples of how they can lift one's spirit when we are stressed. 2 Tim. 2:2 :Paul instructs us to teach with his words, which is utterly important once a solid foundation in the Word is accomplished by daily studies and meditation. Constant repetition is the advice from J. MacArthur. Eventually we can locate and associate and visualize the spot on the page. My check marks, underlining, highlighting and notes in columns help me for now, but I realize I am tied to using my own Bible. Eventually I give them away all scribbled up in hopes to help guide a new believer who cannot afford one or who I may never see again. It is the most important book and so many people I meet out and about do not own one. Here is a trustworthy saying; If we died with him we also live with him; If we endure we will also reign with him. If we disown him, He will also disown us; If we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot disown himself. (2 Timothy 2:11-13)
