I agree with S. Michael Houdmann, but I would like to add this that when Adam sinned we were all present in Adam as Levi was present in Abraham when he paid the tithe (Hebrews 7:9-10).

More over when we are born we are not freshly created but we are extension of Adam, being born in his image and likeness (Genesis 5:3). So, as long as Adamness is present in us we are sinners, no matter how good we are in the eyes of the world. And the problem is that we cannot erase this Adamness from ourselves.

But the good thing is that Lord Jesus Christ, by His death on the cross and resurrection from the death, provides for each one of us means to put Adamness in our lives to death and to rise with and in Jesus Christ to a new life inheriting everything what Jesus is and has. This is the wonder of salvation.

To me, the most important aspect of that verse is its relationship to the verse that states "the wages of sin is death". The very fact that we have all sinned means, that according to God's law, we are all sentenced to die.

In today's society, if you commit a crime that demands a payment and you cannot make the payment, a lien may be put on your property until that payment is made. The lien stands until you or someone on your behalf makes that payment.

In the verse about the wages of sin, we each, due to our breaking the law, have a lien placed upon our life that has to be paid. A death is due. Our lives are forfeit. That's were the verse comes in that says "we ALL have sinned". And why it is so important.

In the example I gave about today's society, if I wanted to help you remove the lien from your property, I could pay the debt for you. But here, you see, I cannot, even if I was willing to die to do so, because I already have the same lien upon my life. Only Someone without sin and who didn't have a lien upon His life could do so.

There has only been One who was without sin. Of course that was Jesus. It is only through Jesus that your life can be saved. JESUS is THE WAY and there is no other Way.

The verse you mentioned could very well be the most important verse in the Bible. In order for anyone to come to Jesus, they must understand this principle. No one gets Saved until they realize they need Saving.

ROMANS 3:10, As it is written, “There is no one righteous, not even one; is a scriptural text, on Faith and Justification by faith. People believes Christianity is only about being righteous, and this often allows for pretentiousness and makes some to claim the role of a faithful believer. Matthew 23:5, "But they do all their deeds to be noticed by men; for they broaden their phylacteries and lengthen the tassels of their garments."

Hypocrisy is the contrivance of a false appearance of virtue or goodness, while concealing real character or inclinations, especially with respect to religious and moral beliefs, and in general sense, dissimulation, pretense etc. It is the practice of engaging in the same behavior or activity for which one criticizes another. Isaiah 29:13, "The Lord says, These people come near to me with their mouth, and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship of me is based on merely human rules they have been taught.

Righteousness is a behavior that is morally justifiable or right. And is characterized by accepted standards of morality, justice, virtue, or uprightness. The acceptable standard of human righteousness is God’s own perfection in every attribute, every attitude, every behavior, every word, and not compromising any aspects that is bad and of wrong influences.

Ezekiel 33:12, "Therefore, son of man, say to your people, ‘If someone who is righteous disobeys, that person’s former righteousness will count for nothing. And if someone who is wicked repents, that person’s former wickedness will not bring condemnation. The righteous person who sins will not be allowed to live even though they were formerly righteous".

Not only are we are all sinners, there is none righteous, no not one. Romans 3:10

One sin, we have to go to hell forever to pay for that one sin. God has to punish sin, or He would not be a righteous judge.

So all have sinned and there is none righteous. That is why all unbelievers are condemned already, because they have not believed on the name of the Son of God. John 3:18 Believers can never be condemned again.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that HE gave His only begotten Son, Jesus, that whosoever believeth in Him, should not perish, but have everlasting life.

First John 2:2 And HE is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only, but for the sins of the whole world. But, only those who believe it are saved.

The gospel, First Corinthians 15:1-4 That Christ died for our sins, according to the scriptures, that He was buried and rose again on the third day, according to the scriptures. How many sins did Jesus die for? Every sin ever committed by everyone in the whole world.

That is why a believer can never be condemned again. Our sin debt is paid in full and we have been sealed by the Holy Spirit unto the day of redemption. Ephesians 1:13 and 4:30.

Romans 4:5-8 But to him that worketh not, but believe on Him who justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.

Blessed is the man to whom the Lord imputes righteousness without works. Blessed is the man whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.

When we repent, turn from trusting in what we do to save us, to trusting in what Jesus did to save us, He gives us eternal life as a free gift. Romans 11:6 It is all grace, not works, Free gift.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the GIFT of God is eternal life. You can not earn, work for, or buy eternal life. We can only accept it as a free gift from God that we did nothing for.

Memorize this verse. First John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God, that ye may KNOW YE HAVE ETERNAL LIFE.

AMAZING GRACE, JESUS PAID IT ALL AND WE PAID 0. IT IS FREE.

Since Jesus paid our sin debt, we can not go to hell because we have no sins to pay for. Jesus paid it all, and gives us eternal life as a free gift.

No sinner can save himself. We can only be saved by someone else who could pay our sin debt. Jesus paid our sin debt in full. When He was on the cross He said, "IT IS FINISHED" That is an accounting term, meaning paid in full. Our sin debt, past, present, and future sins are all paid, Since we have no sins to pay for, we can no longer be condemned. John 3:18.

John 6:40 And this is the will of Him who sent me, that ALL that seeth the Son, and believeth on Him, may have everlasting life, and I will raise him up on the last day. AMAZING GRACE.

If God didn't demand complete purity and holiness for entrance into a perfect, sinless Heaven, for if Heaven has a sin presence it would be no different than a marred creation, then why does humanity need to be saved from something. That something is Sin or missing God's mark He has established.[ Isaiah 57:15 ]

God is Holy and Pure [ Isaiah 43:15 ] and [ Habakkuk 1:13 ], then He must demand in Justice all who break even one law is as if they have broken all and thus condemned or found guilty.

By nature, we all inherited the first Adam's sin, but Thanks be to God's Grace He became sin that we may be forgiven.[ Romans 5:15-18 ]

In the Bible the first chapter we see the fall of mankind and we see God covering their sin. God made clothes for them out of animal skin foreshadowing His redemption plan for it.

In the new testament Paul writes through one man Adam all die and through one man Jesus Christ all are made alive. So we are literally born into sin. All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Jesus Christ paid the price for our sin. Salvation comes from the Father. We can't save ourselves or live up to God's standard, period. So the Father made a way for us to be reconciled to Him by the blood of Jesus Christ.

Jesus is the perfect man. He showed us the truth and the way man should live. Jesus makes it clear He is the way the truth and the life and no man gets to the Father unless they go through Him. We have a King of Kings that took our punishment on Himself because of the love of the Father.

The Holy Spirit is the manifest presence of Jesus in us. We are the temple of the Holy Spirit and He guides us and empowers us to live a worthy life. Salvation is a gift and it cost God His Son and is a very high price for the redemption of mankind, and It should be reverenced as such. Thank you Jesus for your justice and for being my Savior and my King, amen.

All Have Sinned (Navigators Topical Memory System--when I was in high school and college I studied the TMS, the Topical Memory System).

All Have Sinned from Roman Road Life Packs (see online for more on this).

Romans 3:23 (ESV) "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."

and Isaiah 53:6 "ALL we like sheep HAVE GONE ASTRAY; we have turned EVERYONE to HIS OWN WAY, and the Lord has laid on Him (Christ) the iniquity of us all." Add "But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away." (64:6, KJV)

They also list Romans 3:10 (ESV) "as it is written, None is righteous, no, not one."

Romans 5:12 "as by one man [Adam] sin entered the world and death by sin, and so death passed upon ALL MEN because ALL SINNED."
