In Exodus 16 we read how God gave manna from heaven to his people in time of need and tested their faith. Every day manna fell from heaven, just for that day, and on Fridays twice as much to have enough for the Sabbath day, also. The manna would spoil if kept overnight except for the Sabbath day. 

As others mentioned, the Bible tells us to trust the Lord, have faith and not to worry about our physical needs. (Psalm 55:22) (Psalm 127:2) (Luke 12:25) (Philippians 4:6-7) (Matthew 6:31) Elijah, during a famine on the land, was fed by ravens (1 Kings 17).

Natural and man-made disasters will take place in the near or distant future; there is no doubt. However, there are not enough provisions we can store to be sufficient for ourselves and our families. Yes, a few days of water and food is wise to keep in the house, but anything more that that would be counterproductive. Imagine what would happen when the neighbors will find out that you are the only one with lots of provisions. You might also need lots of guns and ammunition. 

I know a person that still eats baked beans from gallon size cans he stored for Y2K scare; anyone remember that? 

Although self-reliance is commendable, when it comes to future catastrophic events we need to pray for wisdom and guidance and trust that God will provide as He promised.

To place ones total dependence and there by adding weight upon the altar of this corrupt Babylonian system which in truth skates daily upon thin ice, is a foolish wager friend. 
Consider various emergency agencies advise people to maintain from five days to three weeks of supplies per household, their polite non threating phrase "survive in place".

And no I am not advocating building reinforced bunkers, towers, and running trip wires to protect your hoarded stash. But what I am advocating here is the use of God given common sense in this matter and not emotional responses to thoughts or concepts that for whatever reason maybe are foreign to you friend. This can be done on a shoestring budget, while out normally shopping purchase an extra can here or there and if you find a great deal stock up your pantry or root cellar. If you have land, then plant only food producing trees a spring and then fall harvest variety for your location zone, best time to plant twenty years ago second best time today. Hosea 4:6

Dependence upon an external source such as a supermarket or local food bank is not a good plan, as you may wake and find them empty ransacked buildings or at the bottom of a ninety meter crater (sink hole) or now located under twenty five meters of bad water!
Also by having your own supplies quite possibility you care for that faithful elderly neighbor and how about that mean mocking secular neighbor, as you now feed him. 
(stranger things have happened and far stranger things will happen yet friend).

Consider for a moment Proverbs 22:3 and then Proverbs 27:12 coincidence or warning
