What does David mean when he says he wants to dwell in the house of God forever?

Psalms 27:4

ESV - 4 One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple.

David essentially made this same statement in Psalm 23:6.

As I interpret the sentiment expressed, by speaking of dwelling in the house of the LORD, he was not speaking of a physical structure, but of being in the presence of God (since -- even though God was and is omnipresent -- the tabernacle or temple served as God's "special" visible earthly "dwelling place") and communing with Him as closely as possible during his entire lifetime, including obediently following the guidance that he would receive from Him in response to any inquiries or issues that he would bring before Him, and not doing anything on his part that would disrupt that relationship.

And then, after his earthly life would reach its end, David wanted to experience the same continual closeness to God forever in eternity.
