Egypt is definitely a powerful country. On the earth we are passing through on this planet we are to walk with God toward our eternal home. In biblical times Abraham went to Egypt in chapter 12 of Genesis. Temporary travel to Egypt was common in times of famine. The land was fertile, fruitful. The Nile River ran through the country. To Israelites, Egypt was an enigma that they both hated and respected. Psalm 114:1: "When Israel went out of Egypt (Exodus 12:51,13:3) the house of Jacob from a people of strange language, Judah became His sanctuary and Israel His dominion." After 430 years (Daniel 9) all the armies of the Lord left Egypt. And Moses told them to remember that God was their deliverer. Egypt is a picture of the world's bondage for the Christian. It is a "type" of the ephemeral earthbound system. It is an allegorical synonym for Sodom and for rebellious Jerusalem. Revelation 11:8: "And their dead bodies will lie in the street of the great city which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also the Lord (our Lord) was crucified." Egypt was a prototype of rampant idolatry. Author unknown, "The Tale of Two Brothers," is an ancient Egyptian fairy tale that speaks of kingship and the connection between divinity and Pharaoh. It is considered an echo of the biblical account of Joseph and Pharaoh's wife. Many prophecies speak of Egypt. Here are a few: Genesis 15:13; Isaiah 19:18-25, 27:12; Jeremiah 9:25,26; 25:19; and chapter 43:8-chapter 46; Ezekiel chapters 29:14,15, and 30:4,25; Daniel 11:8; Hosea chapter 9. The Christian has many warnings about idolatry, judgement, faithfulness and God's all powerful nature. Joel 3:19 declared Egypt to be desolate. Zechariah 14:17-19 says unwilling nations will be subject to divine judgment. Egypt is an example since it was Israel's enemy. In 1 Samuel 10:2,3 Rachel's tomb is in the territory of Benjamin, her son. Rachel (Genesis 35:19; 48:7), refuses to be comforted. Her children would be exiled and held captive (the children of Israel). She is the only one separated from the family of Abraham. (Genesis 23:19) In Matthew 2:14,18, we read that Joseph arose and took Jesus and Mary to Egypt (to protect Him). Look at Jeremiah 31:15-17: "Thus says the Lord..." I wonder if today many of Abraham's children are still today in Egypt. Is Rachel still seeking for those lost children? Anyway, we know that Egypt has a glorious future. Egypt is a remarkable land, an invariable epitome "typologically" of the world. Scripture says in Isaiah 19:24,25, on that day an Egyptian, Assyrian, and Israeli triple alliance will come because of God's grace and mercy. What is God going to do? Something... Is Egypt worth visiting? Is it risky? It would definitely be an unforgettable adventure! Most definitely interesting. Genesis 26:3: "Sojourn in this land. I will be with thee and will bless thee, for unto thee and thy seed I will give and perform the oath which I swear to Abraham thy father." God watches out for His children.
