Firstly we must understand that the concept of faith is defined in the Bible in Hebrews 11:1 and it is the substance of the things hoped for the evidence of things not seen.

Secondly, faith is not intuition or somebody's personal possession; neither is it an inbuilt quality or character, but it can be acquired by hearing God/Christ's word as we read in Romans 10:17. Therefore if someone says you do not have it, do not believe him/her. By reading the Bible (which is The Word of God) one can acquire faith.

Thirdly, our object of Biblical faith should be on God and Lord Jesus Christ as read in Mark11:22 and John 14:1.

These are the three fundamental aspects of Biblical faith. People who were commended by our Lord Jesus as having great faith had put their faith in Lord Jesus Christ after hearing about Him. Please remember that without faith it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6)

What does the Bible say about faith?

Faith is described as the foundational element of the Christian life, allowing believers to trust in God's faithfulness even in challenging times.

The Bible defines faith as the assurance of things hoped for and the conviction of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1). It is essential for pleasing God, as it involves trusting in His promises, character, and power, rather than relying solely on human understanding or physical sight (Hebrews 11:6, 2 Corinthians 5:7).

Biblical Teachings on Faith:

Definition & Nature: Faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see, acting as the foundation of a relationship with God.

Means of Salvation: Faith is the avenue through which salvation is received by grace, rather than by human effort.

Active and Living: True faith is not just passive belief; it is accompanied by actions and works, and without them, it is considered "dead" (James 2:17).

Source of Power: Even small faith (like a mustard seed) can move mountains, symbolising that trust in God can overcome impossible obstacles.

Source of Faith: Faith comes through hearing the message of Christ (Romans 10:17).

Walking by Sight, Not Faith: Believers are called to trust God's guidance rather than just what they see, particularly during times of hardship.

How Faith Grows and Works:

Source: Romans 10:17 states that "faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ".

Power: Jesus used the metaphor of a tiny mustard seed to show that even a small amount of genuine faith can overcome seemingly impossible obstacles (Matthew 17:20).

Trials: Faith is strengthened and proven genuine through perseverance during difficult times (1 Peter 1:6-7).

Connection to Love: Paul notes in Galatians 5:6 that the only thing that counts is "faith working through love".

Faith is, therefore, the basis for hope and the evidence for conviction concerning unseen realities. The entire body of truths delivered by Jesus Christ and his inspired disciples constitutes the true Christian "faith." (Joh 18:37; Ga 1:7-9; Ac 6:7; 1Ti 5:8)

The Christian faith is based on the complete Word of God, including the Hebrew Scriptures, to which Jesus and the writers of the Christian Greek Scriptures frequently referred to support their statements.

The record of Jehovah's acts toward those with true faith testifies to his dependability.

For example, over 4,400 years ago, God told Noah that the world of his day was to be destroyed by a global Flood. He instructed Noah to build a huge ark to preserve human and animal life.

What did Noah do? Hebrews 11:7 tells us: "By faith Noah, after being given divine warning of things not yet beheld, showed godly fear and constructed an ark for the saving of his household."

Another example of true faith is Abraham. Nearly 3,900 years ago, God told him to sacrifice Isaac, his only son by his wife, Sarah. (Genesis 22:1-10) How did Abraham respond? Hebrews 11:17 states: "By faith Abraham, when he was tested, as good as offered up Isaac."

Many humble people demonstrated true faith. They realised from the fulfilment of Bible prophecy that Jesus was the Messiah and accepted his teachings. Having a solid basis in the facts and in the Hebrew Scriptures, they put faith in what Jesus taught.

Read Hebrews Chapter 11 and read about those who showed their FAITH in God.

Faith involves much more than a mental understanding of God's purpose. It is a powerful motivating force that impels a person to act in harmony with God's will.

Strong faith rests on more than just basic knowledge of the Bible. So dig deeply into God's Word, as if you were looking for hidden treasures. (Prov. 2:3-6)

Whatever decisions we have to make, we should be guided not only by what we can see but also by our relationship with God, his advice, and his promise to take care of us.
