Having faith in oneself is not inherently wrong, but the reason and origin behind it are crucial. The Bible teaches that we should have a positive self-image and acknowledge the abilities and skills given to us by God. However, it may be challenging to distinguish between a healthy confidence and arrogant conceit.

When we start believing in our own capabilities instead of placing our faith in God, we tend to develop sin. This self-centered attitude can result in arrogance, feeling entitled and thinking we are superior to others.

The biblical way to have confidence in ourselves involves understanding that our skills and talents are bestowed upon us by God, and our triumphs are thanks to His guidance and grace. We can keep a positive view of ourselves while staying humble by recognizing that we are not solely responsible for our successes. This prevents us from becoming conceited.

Let me give what might seem a trivial explanation. Years ago when I took up golf I prayed God would help me play well. Instead my ball ended up in sand traps and dams much to my dismay. I pleaded with God, “Why didn’t you help me?” God’s reply was basically, “I gave you a brain, so use it. "Now when in troubles, I know God is teaching me how to use my brain to solve my golf disasters.

In life, however, we sometimes face what appears like impossible situations, such as a seriously sick child for example. I have learnt in these situations to pray fervently like all healing depended on God and sought medical advice like all healing help would come from the doctors. I believe God has provided medical science knowledge to heal the sick, and that we should obviously avail ourselves of these discoveries.
