Why did Amnon so quickly hate the one he loved? (2 Samuel 13:15)
2 Samuel 13:15 Then Amnon hated her exceedingly; so that the hatred wherewith he hated her was greater than the love wherewith he had loved her. And Amnon said unto her, Arise, be gone.
2 Samuel 13:1 - 39
KJV - 1 And it came to pass after this, that Absalom the son of David had a fair sister, whose name was Tamar; and Amnon the son of David loved her. 2 And Amnon was so vexed, that he fell sick for his sister Tamar; for she was a virgin; and Amnon thought it hard for him to do anything to her.

Although Amnon's feelings toward Tamar were described as "love", they were actually merely a sexual infatuation that possessed none of the characeristics of godly heterosexual love (such as concern for the other party's welfare), and that dissipated once Amnon's lust had been satisfied. And, even though Amnon had forced her against her will, he afterwards hated her for the very fact of her loss of the virginal purity that had originally drawn him to her, coupled with the fact that he wanted none of the marital and interpersonal obligations that would normally accompany the consummation of a sexual relationship.

It doesn't add up does it? If he loved her, why did his feelings for her change after he forced himself on her? Something very touching is being raised here. For some reason that isn't clearly explained, after he violated her he hated her; he resented her; she was dirty in his sight; he looked at her differently. And the difference hurt them both. It's a lesson on what happens when we abandon restraint. Something beautiful dies and the death is never reconciled. A few short minutes of lustful pleasure destroys two people's lives. That's the lesson in this.
