Why do some people refuse to believe in God, in spite of the evidence?

I have a cousin who's like this. I think he's a person who denies that God exists.

Every breathing person knows there is a God. People can fix their mouths to say whatever comes to mind, but they know better! The Bible says, 'The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction (Proverbs 1:7).

That explains it in fine detail! The person saying 'There is no God' has decided to tell himself that. Psalm 14:1 states, "The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God...'" "In the pride of his face the wicked does not seek him; all his thoughts are, ‘There is no God.’" (Psalm 10:4)

The person who tries to deny God exists has told himself/herself that. It's an attention getter, but that's about all.. Nobody truly believes that their Creator doesn't exist. Hosea spoke for the Lord; he said, "The Lord has a controversy with the inhabitants of the land. There is no faithfulness or steadfast love, and no knowledge of God in the land" (Hosea 4:1).He didn't mean the people didn't know OF God, he meant that they had no fear of him, that they had no desire for him.

Fools hate knowledge. (Proverbs 1:22). That means that they don't know God and don't want to know him, even though they do know that he is God. It's a conscious decision to deny God.

Even an ox knows its owner, and a donkey recognizes its master's care - but Israel doesn't know its master. My people don't recognize my care for them (Isaiah 1:3). They are evil people, corrupt children who have rejected the Lord.. (Isaiah 1:4).

Everybody knows there is a God!
