It seems to me that almost all of the organized churches go to the bible with a preconceived idea looking to support their view instead of asking the Spirit to guide them into the truth. We would have far fewer denominations if it were so. Everybody wants to expound their own idea in to the bible instead of letting the bible speak to them.
There are non essentials that we can dissagree over, but adding to or taking away from scripture seems to run rampant in one way or another. Or we twist the truth to make it say something completely different. We want the bible to say what we want instead of what it says.
Revelation 22 18-19 warns about doing this. Sometimes I think the bible should just be read in church without to much explanation. I think much of the heresy comes from our bible schools where pastors are trained. The problem is men are fallable. None of us have all the truth, but we should agree more than we do. There are to many traditions of men taught along with leaving out parts we don't like to preach on.
I have asked the Lord many times how He can use imperfect men to do a perfect work. I have yet to get an answer. I thank God every day He did not call me to preach. What a tremendous responsibility.
I do not mean to be critical but I see a lot of things that are preached from our pulpits as dogma that do not square with the bible. If the bible does not support your pet view then we should always go with what the bible says. I may be over critical but just the way I see it.
