The issue of Mary Being a perpetual virgin... is Roman Catholic in nature....or Roman Catholic dogma. The issue is that Joseph had plans to marry Mary before the announcement from the angel. Joseph did not have any sexual relationship with her based on the instruction that "The child was conceived by the Holy Spirit". But after Jesus birth, Joseph and Mary had other Children. You will fine them in Matthew 13:55, Mark 3:31, Acts 1:14 and Galatians 1:19

The doctrine of the perpetual virginity of Mary expresses the Virgin Mary's "real and perpetual virginity even in the act of giving birth to Jesus the Son of God made Man". According to the doctrine, Mary was ever-virgin (Ancient Greek: aeiparthenos) for the whole of her life, making Jesus her only biological son, whose conception and birth are held to be miraculous. The Eastern Orthodox Church, which names Joseph's first wife as Salome, holds that Joseph was a widower and merely betrothed, but never married, to Mary, and that references to Jesus' "brothers" are to children of Joseph and Salome. The position of the Catholic Church, derived from the writings of Saint Jerome, is that Joseph was the husband of Mary, but that references to Jesus' "brothers" should be understood to mean cousins or step-brothers. In both cases, the church doctrine of the Perpetual Virginity means that Joseph and Mary never had sexual relations. A passage used to support the doctrine of perpetual virginity is of the sayings of Jesus on the cross, i.e. the pair of commands first to his mother "Woman, behold your son!" and then to his disciple "Behold, thy mother!" in John 19:26-27. The Gospel of John then states that "from that hour the disciple took her unto his own home". Since the time of the Church Fathers this statement has been used to reason that after the death of Jesus there was no one else in the immediate family to look after Mary, and she had to be entrusted to the disciple given that she had no other children.

My humble opinion is that, Mary's womb was the sacred vessel, not Mary herself. Jesus Christ is 100% pure and perfect and undefiled in all things and so Mary's womb had to be 100% pure, perfect and undefiled to 'house, incubate, grow' the 100% pure, perfect and undefiled Messiah. After the birth of Jesus Christ, Mary; who was already betrothed to Joseph went on to have other children and live an ordinary life and why, she was barely mentioned thereafter in the bible after Christ's resurrection. God hides 'His beloved / His chosen' in the world for their protection. For Mary to have been put on such a pedestal or, singled out in such a way as to be worshipped could have endangered her life in future. And God tells us that any form of adoration or, worship other than to, Him amounts to idolatry which is absolutely forbidden. I believe Jesus Christ gave Mary and John to each other as, John was the most beloved of all His disciples. By all accounts, Jesus's own siblings did not believe He was the Messiah, but John did and why? John was also inspired by, God to write Revelation.
