What can we expect when we pray? (Matthew 7:7–8)

Matthew 7:7 - 8

ESV - 7 Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.

We must when we pray know God is and that He is a rewarder for them that diligently seek Him. IE: If you do not know that He will answer it is a rare thing if He does because you lack faith. I have witnessed and been involved with several miracles, healings, and deliverances. They all have 1 thing in common: the receiver knew God would do it.

A sister came to me one time and said, “I know if you pray for me God will heal me.” She had raised places the doctor told her were calcium deposits all over her body that looked like something poking thru from the inside. We were having prayer for the sick, and she took my hand and laid it on one of these near her collar bone. She raised her hands, shut her eyes, and we prayed for her. When I said, “…in the name of Jesus!” it disappeared under my hand. She knew like the lady that touched Jesus's hem that she would be made whole. She got what she believed she would.

If people pray in faith, they will receive; if they think God will not answer, they will receive nothing. Remember the story of Elisha dying? King Joash came to him and Elisha told the king to strike the ground with a handful of arrows. He struck it half-hearted 3 times and was admonished. He said, “You could have had total victory,” but he did not. Because of his approach he received 3 victories, but they were lasting.

The way you believe dictates what you receive. When God delivered me from drugs, alcohol and cigarettes, He healed me of the ability to be addicted because I believed it would be forever. 40 years later on pain meds, I stopped taking them after a few weeks with no withdrawal whatsoever.

You set the degree you receive. God is no respecter of persons. He will do for you like He did for others. Study the scripture, commit it to heart. Many times we miss out on much because we mix doubt and worldly influence into our understanding. Maranatha.

Claim this as a personal promise of Jesus, Matthew 7:7-8:

“God is not far from you. If you ask Him for mercy, seek Him with your heart, and knock through faith in Jesus, the door will open — and you will be saved.” I know this to be true because it worked for me! I did this and you can too. Just:

Ask Him for mercy
“Ask, and it will be given you…” — Matthew 7:7
“God, be merciful to me, a sinner!” — Luke 18:13
“For everyone who asks receives…” — Matthew 7:8

Seek Him with your heart
“You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.” — Jeremiah 29:13
“Seek the Lord while he may be found; call upon him while he is near.” — Isaiah 55:6
“He who seeks finds…” — Matthew 7:8

Knock through faith in Jesus
“To him who knocks it will be opened.” — Matthew 7:8
“I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved…” — John 10:9
“Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life…” — John 3:36

You will be saved
“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” — Romans 10:13
“To all who did receive him… he gave the right to become children of God.” — John 1:12
“The one who comes to me I will never cast out.” — John 6:37
