The one-world religion described in Revelation 17:1-18 as "the great harlot" will be part of the end-times scenario. The term harlot is used throughout the Old Testament as a metaphor for false rel...

My opinion is that it is Islam; the great whore is destroyed by the 10 leaders who support the son of perdition, 7 willingly and three forced. The great whore that corrupted the nations and is guilty of the blood of all the prophets and saints is the love of money, that system that supports the single minded pursuit of power, wealth and prestige and is at the root of all evil.

I have heard many ideas on this, and none fit all the criteria mention but all the corrupt entities whether social, cultural or religious are corrupted by this belief system. Every good work is hindered, prevented and perverted by this spiritual whoredom.

The one world religion is totally antichrist, ask yourselves and research who actively kills the saints and gets a free pass, which religion steals, kills and destroys by permission and religious justification what religion holds the majority seats at the UN? What is the fastest growing religion? Islam’s prophecy mirror those of the antichrist mentioned in scripture, and wait on Mahdi to unite the two factions supported by a reincarnated prophet that will have power to call fire down and destroy their enemies. Look up the names for Allah; I think you will be greatly surprised. What belief system resists and finds the greatest offence in the rebuilding of the Hebrew temple? Who located and placed their “holy site” where they thought the Holiest of Holies was located to prevent daily sacrifice? Look up the inscription on the dome of the rock and compare it to biblical prophecy. What religion hates Christian and Jew and thinks they do good to kill in whose name? Hint: it is not Jesus.

A growing belief among many is one god many names, a Unitarian movement will wage to unite all religions under Islam.

The scripture says; the son of perdition gets his power from the serpent, what religion promotes lying, killing and slavery. Carnal pleasure is their heavenly promise; their worship is based in the works of the flesh not of the spirit. There is no greater deception on this earth than that which is found in Islam. I could go on a long time making comparisons, but I would suggest prayer and fasting while studying the scripture.

When it comes to prophecy the scripture says now we see darkly we see in part and our understanding is darkened but as we move closer we will understand (those who seek it) and know as we are known.

I want to say emphatically Jesus died for everyone; God’s grace is for everyone who believes.

That price for sin that Jesus paid is sufficient; there is grace and mercy for all who call on the name of Jesus out of a sincere heart. Maranatha

2 Timothy 3:1-5, says it all, now and even greater in last days, a world religious physiosophy of a blend of different ways, all talking about God but denying the true God, will dominate humanity and will be sanctioned by the world leader.

The power of God that leads to salvation is the Gospel of Jesus Christ Romans 1:16. The antichrist and his religious leader will deny this and claim all ways lead to heaven if they just love and are tolerant.

So whatever it is called, it will be Satans counterfeit, as has always been.

The harlot is the contrast of the woman mentioned in revelation 12. The harlot's wine is her false doctrine that she gets the entire world to get drunk on, save God's people. Notice what is being said about the woman in Revelation 17: "So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns."

She is sitting on a beast and this is key. What is a beast in bible prophecy? Turn to Daniel 7:17,23 These great beasts, which are four, are four kings, which shall arise out of the earth. Thus he said, The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth, which shall be diverse from all kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces. The beast is a kingdom.

Jeremiah 6:2 "I have likened the daughter of Zion to a comely and delicate woman." This is consistent with the representation of the church in revelation 12. This harlot must be a false system of worship. She wears all the colors of the priest except blue and white. She must be a church and state system.

A close examination of the beast in revelation 12 shows that it a composite beast from the ones from Daniel 7 which means that one must Go back to Daniel 7 to understand that beast. When you look at the descriptions of the little horn in Daniel 7. This beast in revelation 13 must be that little horn power. From biblical identifiers found in Daniel 7,8 that little horn is a religio-political power. That beast also has to have the beast that comes out of the dry land to set up the image to get the whole world to worship him. The beast is a nation that gives power to the first beast. And that first beast was going down as the second one was rising to power. The whore and the first beast are the same thing - religious powered depending on the state to wield power.

Friends, I am not convinced that the Bible teaches that there will be a one-world religion. The passage universally quoted is Revelation 17, which, quite frankly, says nothing of the sort. Many interpret the "harlot" to be representative of false religion; this is a reasonable interpretation, but far from certain. This is part of the difficulty with apocalyptic material.

We cannot be CERTAIN of the identity of the beast, or the ten kings (horns), etc. But even if the harlot were a false religion, there is little in Rev. 17 which suggests that this religion is one which will be enforced throughout the earth. This passage is filled with cryptic symbols and violent imagery, which could mean LOTS of things.

Many people in this forum (and elsewhere) speak of these symbols with great certainty and confidence, as though it were perfectly clear. Friends, it is far from clear. And that is intentional. There are many things which have yet to be revealed, and God in His wisdom and providence decided not to reveal them to us, just as He did not reveal with perfect clarity the precise nature of the Messiah to the OT prophets.

My conclusion is that Rev. 17 may very well be speaking of a one-world religion—but that is FAR from certain. There are so many vague and cryptic symbols in this passage that dogmatic certainty is ill-advised. I am not saying that it is NOT speaking of a one-world religion, I am saying that by analysis of the text alone, a "one-world religion" is not an obvious conclusion, and therefore, should be approached with great humility and less certainty.

It is ok to say that we don't fully understand certain parts of Scripture. It's ok to say we don't have all the answers. There are some things which we will simply have to wait for God to reveal, and we just have to accept that.
