Recognition and acknowledgement of the individual's sinfulness. (Without that, the individual would not perceive a need for forgiveness of that sin.) (Romans 3:23)

Recognition of the individual's inability to achieve or obtain that forgiveness by any action that the individual can perform (Ephesians 2:8-9).

Belief in Christ's identity as God incarnate; faith in His atoning death as God's means of making the individual's forgiveness possible; and (particularly) belief in Christ's resurrection from the dead (Romans 10:9; 1 Corinthians 15:17).

Verbal confession of that belief (Romans 10:9)

My opinion is that with faith the sinner must come to Christ, believing:

1. "It is according to the Scriptures that Christ suffered for our sins" (1 Cor 15:3; Zech. 13:6).

2. "And that he was buried," he proved Himself dead, 3 days and nights entombed.

3. "After that, according to the Scriptures, He rose again the third day." This is the truth that saves — but is unable to save until the sinner believes it (Rom 1:16).

First of all, the Bible says that no one comes to God except He (God) draws him. So I would say that the mere fact that you have a hunger to come to God speaks to the conviction that has already taken place in your heart through the Holy Spirit.

The next thing the Bible says is: Believe.
Believe in your heart that Jesus is Lord, that He came to the earth, lived, and died for you that you might be saved, justified and have the privilege of a relationship with the Godhead and the assurance of eternity.

When you have believed, confess.
Confess your sins, because He is faithful and just to forgive you. Also confess that which you have believed in your heart. Confess your submission to His lordship over you life. And believe that it is so. Old things have passed away. Now walk in the newness of life that you have received.
