God has a purpose and plan for every human being he created. The bible is God’s revelation about himself and it’s the instruction manual for human life. Becoming familiar with the whole bible is the most important step.

Through the bible we come to understand that God wants to have a personal relationship with us but our sin is blocking that relationship. Once we are willing to accept Jesus as our personal saviour, then God makes us into a brand new person, we become spiritually alive and we begin that relationship when the Holy Spirit comes to live within us.

The next step is to invite Jesus Christ to become the Lord of this new life. Jesus wants to train and equip us to accomplish all that God has prepared for us to do. He does that as we walk with the Holy Spirit and he helps us understand God’s will for our lives.

There are 5 general ways that God will tell us what he wants us to do:
Commanding Scripture - the bible has many instructions and examples to show us how to live a God-pleasing life
Compelling Spirit - the Holy Spirit will show us what the bible means and he may give us thoughts, emotions, dreams or visions to guide us.
Counsel of the Saints - other mature Christians who we know and trust may have words of wisdom, instruction or encouragement to show us what God wants us to do.
Common Sense - God has given us amazing thinking abilities to reason out what God wants us to do
Circumstantial Signs - God may put opportunities in front of us that he wants us to pursue or he may close a door that is not his will for us.

When we pray we are often asking questions or seeking guidance and understanding. God always responds by revealing his will.

God has given human beings much freedom in making personal choices about the decisions of life - where to live, what career to pursue, what spouse to choose, what ministries to serve in the church.

However, God does have a perfect will for every major decision we have to make in life. But he waits patiently to see if we will seek first his will in these matters or we will go our own way.

God wants to use each one of us to build his kingdom on this earth, to bring his love and goodness to a lost and dying world. He also wants to mould and shape our character so we will emulate Jesus Christ - so we will think, feel, talk and walk like Jesus did.

Fulfilling the will of God (doing what he wants us to do) is a lifelong process of discovery experienced through an intimate personal relationship with God. The result is the abundantly fulfilling and deeply satisfying life that Jesus promised us, then eternal life in the age to come.

May God bless your desire and your journey.

I answer your question with a question: What is the one thing that you can give to someone who has everything? The answer is love, honor and respect. Part of this is giving thanks for everything

“In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of YHVH in the Messiah Yeshua concerning you.”
— 1Ths 5:18 (RNKJV)

That whole section of chapter 5 is very instructive (vs; 14 through 24) but verse 18 actually states that this is the will of GOD.

So give GOD thanks, for he saved you, not by your works or deeds, but because he loved you first. “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of YHVH:”
— Eph 2:8 (RNKJV)

The will of GOD is for you to give him thanks.

Ps 97 (RNKJV)
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
¹⁰ Ye that love YHVH, hate evil: he preserveth the souls of his saints; he delivereth them out of the hand of the wicked.
¹¹ Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart.
¹² Rejoice in YHVH, ye righteous; and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.

How do I know what God wants me to do?

Sometimes there is a clear "right" decision, when God makes it very clear what path to take. At other times, there are many "good" decisions, and any one of them can lead us further into a whole life with Jesus. Continue to pray about it and ask the Holy Spirit to give you wisdom.

Pray about these Principles:

Surrender your personal desires. As you seek God's will, it's essential to be fully open to whatever God wants.
Meditate on God's Word.
Spend focused time in prayer.
Seek other people's advice.
Consider your circumstances.
Think through your decision logically.

The primary way God commands us is through His Word. "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness" (2 Timothy 3:16). If Scripture commands something of us, there's no need to hesitate and wonder if it's really God's will for us.

Immerse yourselves in the Bible, so we will know which actions meet God's standards. "Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth: meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything that is written in it" (Joshua 1:8).

Knowing if God wants you to do something is often a process of discernment rather than a single "neon sign."

Are you encountering the same verses or themes repeatedly through reading, sermons, or conversations?

Watch for open doors (opportunities aligning) or closed doors (hindrances or negative changes) in your situation.

A persistent feeling in your heart that you can't shake might be God calling you to action.

Sometimes a path opens up that you didn't seek out, one that fits your talents and skills perfectly. [Example, may you see a person in the park or street that looks unhappy, take the steps to speak about the Bible and its promises - maybe this is a door that has been opened to you] Sometimes God confirms a heart-prompting by opening a physical door or providing a specific opportunity to act on it.

Always remember, God will not prompt you to do something that violates the Bible; proper direction is always backed by or consistent with the Word.

You may feel a "burning" or persistent conviction that you cannot shake. Unlike a fleeting whim, a God-given desire often intensifies over time.

It is often understood that God places godly desires within a believer's heart, which He then promises to bring to pass in His timing.

Psalm 37:4 ESV: "I sought Jehovah, and he answered me,"

Psalm 37:4 ESV: delight thyself also in Jehovah; And he will give thee the desires of thy heart."

Philippians 2:13 ESV: "For it is God who worketh in you both to will and to work, for his good pleasure."

The Word of God is alive and exerts power. (Hebrews 4:12) The Bible is valuable because it reveals God's thoughts and his feelings toward you. It helps you to gain not only knowledge but also true wisdom and hope. Most importantly, the Bible helps you to become Jehovah's friend. When you study the Bible, you allow its power to have a positive effect on your life.

Jehovah can give us the desire to act. How may he do this?

Perhaps we learn of a particular need in the congregation. We might ask ourselves, 'How can I help to fill this need?' Or maybe we have been invited to accept a challenging assignment, but we wonder if we can do it justice. Or after reading a portion of God's Word, we may wonder, 'How can I apply this Bible passage to help others?' Jehovah will not force us to do anything. But when he sees that we are willing to examine ourselves, God can give us the desire to follow through and act.

God can also give us the power to act. (Isa. 40:29) He can enhance our natural abilities with his holy spirit—example Ex. 35:30-35.

The Bible contains many examples of how God equipped men and women with the desire and the power to act. As we consider some of these accounts, try to think of ways that God can similarly use you.
