What helps me are two things. First, if they're talking about me they're leaving someone else alone; second, it's none of my business what they are saying. As long as you know, in your heart and mind you are good and trying your best to live Christlike then it doesn't matter. But do pray for them. Also pray for strength to withstand what is being said if you need to. God never fails. Deuteronomy 31:6 Be strong and of good courage, do not fear not be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you. NKJV
