Often we ask - why people are not being healed today like back then during Christ and Apostles’ time. I have wondered that myself a few times and was tempted to think that God maybe cannot be concerned with everything that is going on here on earth. The truth is that God cares very much about every little aspect of our lives – however, getting cured of a certain disease is not the point. The point is that God has already healed us (Isaiah 53:5; 1 Peter 2:24). Although we may not see miraculous healings from cancer, blindness or heart disease every day, in reality we are all healed because Christ died for us, and as Paul said, "we walk by faith, not by sight"(2 Cor 5:7). And the question still lingers, why so much pain and death, why so many babies born with deformities and life-altering conditions. None of us want to suffer, none of us want to die, to say nothing of those around us who love us and hurt so much when we suffer or die. But what are the saints going to see in the first resurrection? Jesus! (1 Thessalonians 4:16, 17). Extending a life by 10, 15 or even 25 years means nothing compared to all eternity that God promised to His followers (John 3:16; 1 John 2:25). And let's not forget that the best life any of us have is full of hard labor, worries, pain and sorrow. But that will end one day soon (Rev 21:4).

I have worked in medical research over 40 years trying to understand the many causes of various human diseases. Here are some of my conclusions: 1. Christ has built healing into the human body which we are unaware of. Eg when we cut ourselves in a fall the coagulation system stops blood loss and then heals the cut tissue. The immune system stops nasty bugs getting into us thru the cut. The bone has inherent in this tissue God's creative mechanisms to heal a break. 2. We develop about 6 cancers a year which we are unaware of but our immune system takes care of many of them. 3. God has gifted many health workers who thru research can now heal many diseases but only thru God's various healing mechanisms in the human body. The bottom line is God is sovereign and His ways and thoughts are not ours. Job found that out the hard way. By His stripes we are healed physically, spiritually and emotionally and that is my experience. In the next life suffering will be non-existent. And this life with all its pain is like a wisp of vapor compared to our blessed eternal existence in Christ Jesus, praise God.

In the 2,000 years since Christ’s ministry of healing, there have always been times when God has healed people with great frequency. We commonly refer to these as revivals. But there were always at least to key ingredients that drove the revival and the outpouring of God’s healing power: 1) a passionate desire to share the gospel with a lost and dying world. Taking every opportunity to share the good news of forgiveness of sins through faith in Jesus Christ. 2) a deep awareness of personal sinfulness and a powerful spirit of repentance. People would readily confess their sins and ask God to search their hearts. People would turn from their evil ways and pursue Holy living. When these things take place in s revival God is pleased to pour out his healing mercy and all the other gifts of the Spirit that so richly bless the church. When was the last revival in our local churches? Where is our individual passion for the lost and our desire for personal holiness? It is important to pray in faith for healing. It is also important to have a close personal relationship with God and s life of personal holiness that is pleasing to him. When our contemporary churches today take seriously our responsibility to carry on Christ’s mission to a lost and dying world, then, in my view, God will do his part by pouring out his resources, including divine healing. In my view, when God does not answer our prayers for healing, it is because he has an even more important work he wants to complete at the time. Therefore, it behooves us to discover what that greater work is, then walk with him to its completion.

“Even though you make many prayers, I am not listening,” Jehovah once told the Israelites. Pointing out the reason, he continued: “With bloodshed your very hands have become filled.” (Isaiah 1:15) How could anyone ignore Jehovah’s law and yet have an audience with him? A Bible proverb gives a clear answer, saying: “He that is turning his ear away from hearing the law—even his prayer is something detestable.”—Proverbs 28:9. The Bible gives another reason why some prayers are not heard, when it says: “You do ask, and yet you do not receive, because you are asking for a wrong purpose, that you may expend it upon your cravings for sensual pleasure.” (James 4:3) No, Jehovah will not answer prayers for the satisfying of wrong desires. We must also remember that God is not taking orders from humans, so to speak. He is the One who decides how he will answer our prayers. Sure to be answered are prayers that go to God out of a clean heart, with a proper motive, and in his appointed way—through Jesus Christ. (John 14:6, 14) But even those whose prayers meet such requirements have sometimes felt that they are not being heard. Why would God not immediately answer certain prayers of his servants? Jehovah knows the best time to answer prayers. Though a boy asks for a bicycle, his father may not obtain one for him until the child is old enough to ride it safely. The same may be true with some prayers of those who love God. Knowing what is best for them, he grants what is needed at the most favorable time. Yet, Jehovah’s servants do not get everything they may pray for. Being imperfect, they may desire some things that would not be good for them. Their loving heavenly Father would not give them anything harmful, for he is the Giver of “every good gift and every perfect present.” (James 1:17) Similarly, God may not grant something that is not necessary from his standpoint. (Compare 2 Corinthians 12:7-10.) He answers prayers in harmony with his will and purpose for his people.—1 John 5:14, 15.
