As followers of Christ, there are many reasons why we should be eager to share our faith in all circumstances. However, in the case of our workplace there is one other consideration. As employees, ...

Preach the Gospel at all times and when absolutely necessary use words.

Why should we talk about our faith in the work place? Because we spend 40 or more hours of our lives at work, and to think we would not take or make the opportunity to share our faith is unfathomable.

The ‘invariability’ aspect of someone commenting on your faith, is not the only ‘opportunity’ we should take, but we should also make opportunity, 2 Timothy 4:2. On the contrary, we should not just be ‘doing time’ at our work place, but also be ‘redeeming the time’.

Instead of participating in idle talk, which takes place in work place break rooms and lunch times, we should be careful and turn their idle words into meaningful words! We should direct and control the conversation.
Instead of the idle (meaningless) words “…Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer every man.” Colossians 4:6

Remembering that “… every one of us shall give account of himself to God”. Romans 14:12 and that, ”… every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.” Matthew 12:36.

We should also not be ashamed to mention Him, Luke 9:26, for only by sharing the good news can anyone be saved.

Why should we? Why should we not!

My opinon is that there should be less talking and more doing good in the work place. Most of us Christians try to use the work place for evangelism believing that we should convert everyone to our faith. On the contrary I think we should actually be demonstrating our faith everywhere rather than talking about it. People must see us doing something or behaving and living in a certain way then they will ask why. That is the opportunity to explain about the life changing experience with Christ.

When others gossip at work you don't, when others steal time and stationary you don't, when others hate the boss you don't, when others complain about salaries you don't and you are always willing to share your lunch. You greet the guard at the gate, you are gracious to the lady who makes the tea and the cleaner always finds your station clean. You do your job to perfection with a willing heart. Daniel and his four Hebrew friends show us how we are supposed to behave at work and at school. In Dan 1:8 - 16, Dan 2:15 - 17, 24, 27 - 30. Dan 6:3 - 5.

Being a living testimony of your faith is bound to make people ask reasons for your lifestyle and that is the perfect opportunity to explain yourself. Mat 25:31-46 makes us accountable to others for things we ought to do. This frequently is a much louder and most effective sermon than any pulpit sermon or sharing verses in the work place.

Also we need to avoid trying to get people to convert people to our particular denomination or church. Talk about the Saviour of the world more than your church when asked to do so.

I recently learned that it is important to disclose to your employer your religion/ church practices to avoid labour legal issues in the future. At some point your employer might ask you to perform certain tasks that may be in conflict with your religious beliefs. If this has been communicated prior, then it is easier to deal with. However, in the event that your employer wasn't aware then he is on stronger grounds to fire you.
