Matthew 6:9-13 and Luke 11:2-4 both contain what we refer to as The Lords Prayer. They are slightly different from each other. This is Jesus response to the request of teach us to pray. Actually "Jesus prayer" is found in John 17.

In Matthew 6:9+10, we are instructed to acknowledge that God is Our Father, a loving Father. He is to be Hallowed. This is a reference to Ezekiel 36:20-32. (This is a request for the arrival of God's Kingdom by the restoration of Israel, a recognition of His uniqueness and His sovereignty.) His will be done!

Matthew 6:11-13 The daily bread is a reminder of our complete dependency on Our Father. Let us recall, He rescued us from slavery, led us through the wilderness, (Exodus 16:4) gave us manna for food. Doesn't He do the same today, if we turn to Him, and (Exodus 6:6+7) accept Him?

The request for forgiveness lays claim to God's mercy and our humanity. We must trust and follow where He takes us.

The prayer is really half about God, and half about our behaviour. It is the same in the 10 commandments.

Exodus 20:1-17, And Deuteronomy 5:1-22 teach us about this covenant. The first four teach about Our Lord God. The rest teach us how to please God and live an acceptable life for Him.

I would conclude that Jesus response to teach us to pray, is a spiritual summary of the old testament law given by God to Moses on Mount Sinai.

Proverbs 4:20...Incline your ear to my sayings...4:22 for they are life to those who find them...4:26 ponder the path of your feet and let all your ways be established now and forever. May it be so!
