When you name your sins & repent of them, what if you forget some? I have committed _____ sin. Will God forgive me? When I was 9, I responded to an altar call at the Baptist church we attended. I don't recall what the sermon was that caused me to do that, but it must have stirred up a lot of fear in me. I do remember that no one, not one adult, took me aside to explain to me what it meant to be "saved." The words "born again" were never mentioned. Neither was the word "repent." It was many years before I learned the truth about my salvation. By then I had lived the life of wantonness, full of extravagance & decadence. Then I met a real Christian. My life changed. I fell in love with Jesus & with His Word. As I read & studied His Word, learning of Him, I learned about being born-again & what it meant. I learned what true repentance was. I often wondered in those early years as I worked to walk closer & closer to Him, if in the preceding years, even though I had knelt at an altar & had asked Jesus to "come into my heart" was I really saved? Had something dreadful happened to me as I walked the wild side, would I have gone to heaven? I hope one day the LORD will tell me the truth about that. Here is what I learned about my sin, confessing & repentance. First of all, if it had been required of me to confess each sin, I would still be kneeling at that altar. For as fast as I could have listed them & confessed them as sins, I would have been compiling more.... It's not the individual sins we are to confess, it is the fact that we know in our heart that we are a sinner, that we can't save ourselves. Even as a kid, my sins were a mountain. Add to that the years that passed while I lived like a hellion, my sins were as black as pitch & higher than the Great Pyramid. In fact, once in prayer, the LORD showed me what my sins must have looked like, writhing black like molten lava, with a stench that can't be described. But in an instant it was all gone. Then Psalm 103:12 came to me, "As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed my (our) transgressions from us." The observable universe is thought to be 92 billion light-years in diameter -- one light-year is 6 trillion miles. I did the math... 92 billion times 6 trillion equals..... 92,000,000,000 X 6,000,000,000,000.....552 with 21 zeros....552 Sextillion... So instead of fretting over each & every sin, take the whole lump, no matter how huge you think it is, & lay it as His feet. If you haven't already done so, confess that you know you are a sinner, that you are dead in your sin (Ephesians 2:1; Ephesians 2:1; 1 Peter 2:24 & accept the gift of His grace. That He paid a debt He didn't owe so that you would not have to pay the debt that you did owe. Remember that "all have sinned" (Romans 3:23) & the "wages of sin is death" (Romans 6:23) I have had people tell me that GOD has shown them a particular sin & that the sorrow would come over them like a wave. I have had that happen too. But always remember that GOD does not want your remorse, He wants you to be renewed, turning completely from your sin. If He brings to your remembrance something that causes you great sorrow, confess that you know it was a sin & you are turning from it forever & always. Don't be like Lot's wife and look back.....(.Genesis 19:26) We will have the nature of a sinner as long as we are in this flesh body, but His Holy Spirit lives within us, giving us strength for each day, to walk in His ways. We can live as He lives within us, without compromise by keeping our eyes on Him. Consider these words of the song, "It Is Well With My Soul": My sin, oh the bliss of this glorious thought! My sin, not in part but the whole, Is nailed to the cross and I bear it no more, Praise the LORD, Praise the LORD, O my soul! I don't have to think about my sin any more. And if you are truly born-again, & have His Holy Spirit dwelling within you, nether do you.

Because of what is preached in the pulpit, condemnation, guilt etc we believers ask this same question over and over. Let's look at it realistically. Jesus died over 2000 years ago, before we were born He died for our sins All of our sins were forgiven before we were born. The only unforgivable sin is blaspheme against the Holy Spirit. Which is not receiving Christ as savior. Now lets look at scripture; Heb 7:26-27 Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself. NIV Heb 10:10 And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. NIV The below is not giving permission to sin since we sin without permission but it helps establish our righteousness in Him Heb 10:2 For then would they not have ceased to be offered? Because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins. KJV 2 Cor 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. KJV With that being said, just move forward and love people and you will do great for the kingdom of heaven

I believe the only unforgivable sin is the rejection of Jesus as your Savior. He is able to erase all you sin. All you have to do is BELIEVE and ask. That being said, the acceptance of Jesus as your Savior includes submission to His Authority in your life. Paul wrote : Because these things are permissible "what shall we say then, shall we go on sinning, by no means, we died to sin. How can we live in it any longer." Does this mean that once we are saved, we will never sin again? No, only that we should want not to.

When you name your sins and repent of them, what if you forget some? Forgiveness is not dependent on your perfect memory but on the attitude of your heart. Psalm 19:12 Being forgiven is not about delivering a shopping list of sins to God, but about a way of living before God. Even if you cannot name all your sins, God forgives all those who come truly seeking forgiveness through Jesus Christ. Regards Philip

The question is - "I have committed ------- sin. Will God forgive me! The answer is that God has forgiven every sin, past, present and future. The statement in Jn. 1:29 - "Behold! The Lamb of who takes away the sin of the world" makes it clear. The only question remains whether any one has been, is, or will be willing to receive the forgiveness available in Jesus Christ or not. Any one who has experienced the new birth mentioned in Jn. 3:3 & 5 is now God's child, and now it is God's responsibility to keep His child as the child of God with all His might. Look at Jn. 10:28-29; also compare with Rom. 8:35-39. If any child of God sins, God will see that that child gets rid of that sin (Heb. 12:3-11). This Child will never commit the sin that leads to eternal death (1 Jn. 5:16-17). The unbelievers' sin, though already forgiven by God, will remain with them at the time of judgement, because they are not willing to accept the forgiveness of God available in Jesus Christ. See here Rev. 20:12-15. If any one has sinned let him/her read 1 Jn. 2:1-2. Also let the troubled heart read 1 Jn. 1:9. It is a great comforting word. Praise be to God.

I am guilty of sin in all its shapes and sizes. I have habitual sins and pet sins I struggle with daily and I have major events every now and again. I sin the same as I sinned before I was saved, but now I have a conscience and a Saviour that I plead with for forgiveness when the Spirit convicts me. I believe our failures to accept this wonderful forgiveness lies in our inability to totally understand just 'how' forgiving our God actually is. He sees us as we are, and not as we dress ourselves in our fancy clothes and mannerisms; the plastic facade the world sees is just a barrier we put up. We are broken, weak, lost and in dire need of Jesus. There's nothing you can do to make God love you less. It's a fact. See Romans 8 v 37-39: 37No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.38And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. 39No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord. That should make the hairs on your neck bristle with reassurance, I never tire of reading it. If it doesn't make you feel loved and reassured, you need to ask yourself why. If it's because you doubt He can forgive you, you need to reacquaint yourself with the awesome raw power that created the universe and how the same tender and pierced hands call out to you, no longer nailed to a tree but sitting at the side of the Father. There's nothing you can do to make Him love you less. Why would you keep taking away from this when its a life-changing truth?

Of course, God forgives our sins ~~ any sin and all sins. However, in order to receive this free gift we have to believe that Jesus is our Savior. Sometimes we wonder if we have enough faith, a "saving faith". This is what I think: God the Father would not have put his only Son through such agony and then made it impossible for us to be saved. He wouldn't have WATCHED his only Son die on the cross and then make salvation unattainable. It makes no sense. Therefore, God forgave and continues to forgive all sins of all sinners. It is a gift of God through our faith (not our good behavior or actions.) Our faith can be small or large, new or old, wavering or solid. It just has to be faith to activate total forgiveness from a loving, merciful God.

You need to repent to have fully developed forgiveness. God’s pardon is most complete, resulting in completely removing all estrangement and alienation between you and God. It restores you to where you were in your relationship to God before the sin (if you are/were a Christian then). The TOTAL removal of the sin as resulting from God’s forgiveness is thus put as prayers of 2 men in the Bible: "Thou hast cast ALL my sins behind thy back" (Isa 38:17); "Thou wilt cast ALL their sins into the depths of the sea" (Mic 7:19) See also 1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, He (God) is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from ALL unrighteousness.”

God is no longer imputing sins to anyone today (2 Corinthians 5:19). Jesus Christ, who knew no sin, was made to be sin for us (2 Corinthians 5:21). All our sins, past, present, and future, were nailed to the cross so that we are no longer burdened with the anguish of being unable to live up to God's requirements. Jesus Christ was perfect on our behalf, and God was in Christ on the cross reconciling the world unto Himself (2 Corinthians 5:19). Our job is to reconcile ourselves to God through faith in Jesus Christ, believing the gospel that saves today: 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 KJV: "Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:" When we believe this, we are sealed with the holy Spirit until the day of redemption, and thankfully not just until we sin again (Ephesians 4:30)…which we will most likely do as humans (Romans 7:22-25) KJV. Our faith in Jesus Christ makes us the righteousness of God (2 Corinthians 5:21)! Turning from sin will not get our sins forgiven. Confessing our sins will not get our sins forgiven. Water baptism will not get our sins forgiven. Humbly asking for forgiveness will not get our sins forgiven. Crying a scalding hot bucket of tears and begging God to forgive us will not get our sins forgiven. Our sins were forgiven nearly 2,000 years ago (Colossians 1:14, 2 Corinthians 5:19), and salvation occurs at the moment of belief in this, the gospel of our salvation (Ephesians 1:13). Nothing that we ourselves do in the flesh can assist in what Christ completed for us (Ephesians 2:8-9, Colossians 2:10). It's literally how we accept Jesus Christ as our savior from this present evil world (Galatians 1:4). We can’t save ourselves by doing anything other than having faith in Christ. Repentance, from the Greek word μετανοέω, means to "change your mind". Israel had to change their mind on who Jesus Christ was, their promised Messiah, and be baptized. We today are saved by God's grace through our faith in what Jesus Christ did on the cross on our behalf (1 Corinthians 15:1-4), and nothing of ourselves (Ephesians 2:8-9). We, as saved members of the church, the body of Christ, should absolutely change our minds on living a life of continued sin. Will we sin again as saved members? Yes, but our goal is to no longer serve sin, as our understanding of who we are in Christ becomes clearer during our walk in faith. Break the yoke of bondage (Galatians 5:1) and live in peace by accepting God’s free gift (Romans 5:18) through faith in what Christ accomplished on the cross for you (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). You've been blessed with all spiritual blessings (Ephesians 1:3), as believers instantly become members of the church, which is the body of Christ (Colossians 1:24).
