Then b He said to them in His teaching, c "Beware of the scribes, who desire to go around in long robes, d love greetings in the marketplaces,
"the e best seats in the synagogues, and the best places at feasts,
f "who devour widows' houses, and for a pretense make long prayers. These will receive greater condemnation."

Then He taught them many things by parables, and said to them in His teaching:
Matthew 23:1 - 7
Then Jesus spoke to the multitudes and to His disciples.
Luke 20:45 - 47
Then, in the hearing of all the people, He said to His disciples.
"greetings in the marketplaces, and to be called by men, 'Rabbi, Rabbi.'
Woe to you Pharisees! For you love the best seats in the synagogues and greetings in the marketplaces.
So He told a parable to those who were invited, when He noted how they chose the best places, saying to them:
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you devour widows' houses, and for a pretense make long prayers. Therefore you will receive greater condemnation.
