Now a it happened on one of those days, as He taught the people in the temple and preached the gospel, that the chief priests and the scribes, together with the elders, confronted Him
and spoke to Him, saying, "Tell us, b by what authority are You doing these things? Or who is he who gave You this authority?"
But He answered and said to them, "I also will ask you one thing, and answer Me:
"The c baptism of John - was it from heaven or from men?"
And they reasoned among themselves, saying, "If we say, 'From heaven,' He will say, 'Why then did you not believe him?'
"But if we say, 'From men,' all the people will stone us, d for they are persuaded that John was a prophet."
So they answered that they did not know where it was from.
And Jesus said to them, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things."
Then He began to tell the people this parable: e "A certain man planted a vineyard, leased it to vinedressers, and went into a far country for a long time.
"Now at vintage-time he f sent a servant to the vinedressers, that they might give him some of the fruit of the vineyard. But the vinedressers beat him and sent him away empty-handed.
"Again he sent another servant; and they beat him also, treated him shamefully, and sent him away empty-handed.
"And again he sent a third; and they wounded him also and cast him out.
"Then the owner of the vineyard said, 'What shall I do? I will send my beloved son. Probably they will respect him when they see him.'
"But when the vinedressers saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, 'This is the g heir. Come, h let us kill him, that the inheritance may be i ours.'
"So they cast him out of the vineyard and j killed him. Therefore what will the owner of the vineyard do to them?
"He will come and destroy those vinedressers and give the vineyard to k others." And when they heard it they said, "Certainly not!"
Then He looked at them and said, "What then is this that is written:
l 'The stone which the builders rejected
Has become the chief cornerstone'?
"Whoever falls on that stone will be m broken; but n on whomever it falls, it will grind him to powder."
And the chief priests and the scribes that very hour sought to lay hands on Him, but they feared the people - for they knew He had spoken this parable against them.
o So they watched Him, and sent spies who pretended to be righteous, that they might seize on His words, in order to deliver Him to the power and the authority of the governor.
Then they asked Him, saying, p "Teacher, we know that You say and teach rightly, and You do not show personal favoritism, but teach the way of God in truth:
"Is it lawful for us to pay taxes to Caesar or not?"
But He perceived their craftiness, and said to them, "Why do you test Me?
"Show Me a denarius. Whose image and inscription does it have?" They answered and said, "Caesar's."
And He said to them, q "Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's."
But they could not catch Him in His words in the presence of the people. And they marveled at His answer and kept silent.
r Then some of the Sadducees, s who deny that there is a resurrection, came to Him and asked Him,
saying: "Teacher, Moses wrote to us that if a man's brother dies, having a wife, and he dies without children, his brother should take his wife and raise up offspring for his brother.
"Now there were seven brothers. And the first took a wife, and died without children.
"And the second took her as wife, and he died childless.
"Then the third took her, and in like manner the seven also; and they left no children, and died.
"Last of all the woman died also.
"Therefore, in the resurrection, whose wife does she become? For all seven had her as wife."
Jesus answered and said to them, "The sons of this age marry and are given in marriage.
"But those who are t counted worthy to attain that age, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry nor are given in marriage;
"nor can they die anymore, for u they are equal to the angels and are sons of God, v being sons of the resurrection.
"But even Moses showed in the burning bush passage that the dead are raised, when he called the Lord w 'the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.'
"For He is not the God of the dead but of the living, for x all live to Him."
Then some of the scribes answered and said, "Teacher, You have spoken well."
But after that they dared not question Him anymore.
And He said to them, y "How can they say that the Christ is the Son of David?
"Now David himself said in the Book of Psalms:
z 'The LORD said to my Lord,
"Sit at My right hand,
Till I make Your enemies Your footstool." '
"Therefore David calls Him 'Lord'; a how is He then his Son?"
b Then, in the hearing of all the people, He said to His disciples,
c "Beware of the scribes, who desire to go around in long robes, d love greetings in the marketplaces, the best seats in the synagogues, and the best places at feasts,
e "who devour widows' houses, and for a f pretense make long prayers. These will receive greater condemnation."

Mark 11:27 - 33
Then they came again to Jerusalem. And as He was walking in the temple, the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders came to Him.
And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, "By what power or by what name have you done this?
But he who did his neighbor wrong pushed him away, saying, 'Who made you a ruler and a judge over us?
John answered them, saying, "I baptize with water, but there stands One among you whom you do not know.
"I did not know Him; but that He should be revealed to Israel, therefore I came baptizing with water."
And although he wanted to put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.
"But if we say, 'From men,' we fear the multitude, for all count John as a prophet."
For Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just and holy man, and he protected him. And when he heard him, he did many things, and heard him gladly.
Luke 7:24 - 30
When the messengers of John had departed, He began to speak to the multitudes concerning John: "What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind?
You have brought a vine out of Egypt; You have cast out the nations, and planted it.

Hear another parable: There was a certain landowner who planted a vineyard and set a hedge around it, dug a winepress in it and built a tower. And he leased it to vinedressers and went into a far country.

Then He began to speak to them in parables: "A man planted a vineyard and set a hedge around it, dug a place for the wine vat and built a tower. And he leased it to vinedressers and went into a far country.

"If we let Him alone like this, everyone will believe in Him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and nation."
And when they had come to the place called Calvary, there they crucified Him, and the criminals, one on the right hand and the other on the left.
Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a Man attested by God to you by miracles, wonders, and signs which God did through Him in your midst, as you yourselves also know -
Him, being delivered by the determined purpose and foreknowledge of God, you have taken by lawless hands, have crucified, and put to death.
And killed the Prince of life, whom God raised from the dead, of which we are witnesses.

The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone.
Jesus said to them, "Have you never read in the Scriptures: 'The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone. This was the LORD's doing, And it is marvelous in our eyes' ?
1 Peter 2:7
Therefore, to you who believe, He is precious; but to those who are disobedient, "The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone.
1 Peter 2:8
And "A stone of stumbling And a rock of offense." They stumble, being disobedient to the word, to which they also were appointed.
He will be as a sanctuary, But a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense To both the houses of Israel, As a trap and a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
And many among them shall stumble; They shall fall and be broken, Be snared and taken.
You watched while a stone was cut out without hands, which struck the image on its feet of iron and clay, and broke them in pieces.
Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver, and the gold were crushed together, and became like chaff from the summer threshing floors; the wind carried them away so that no trace of them was found. And the stone that struck the image became a great mountain and filled the whole earth.
And in the days of these kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed; and the kingdom shall not be left to other people; it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever.
"Inasmuch as you saw that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it broke in pieces the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver, and the gold - the great God has made known to the king what will come to pass after this. The dream is certain, and its interpretation is sure."
"And whoever falls on this stone will be broken; but on whomever it falls, it will grind him to powder."
Then the Pharisees went and plotted how they might entangle Him in His talk.
And they sent to Him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, "Teacher, we know that You are true, and teach the way of God in truth; nor do You care about anyone, for You do not regard the person of men.
When they had come, they said to Him, "Teacher, we know that You are true, and care about no one; for You do not regard the person of men, but teach the way of God in truth. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?
Matthew 17:24 - 27
When they had come to Capernaum, those who received the temple tax came to Peter and said, "Does your Teacher not pay the temple tax?
Render therefore to all their due: taxes to whom taxes are due, customs to whom customs, fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor.
1 Peter 2:13 - 17
Therefore submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake, whether to the king as supreme.
Matthew 22:23 - 33
The same day the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to Him and asked Him.
Mark 12:18 - 27
Then some Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to Him; and they asked Him, saying:
But when Paul perceived that one part were Sadducees and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, "Men and brethren, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee; concerning the hope and resurrection of the dead I am being judged!
For Sadducees say that there is no resurrection - and no angel or spirit; but the Pharisees confess both.
If, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.
1 Corinthians 15:42
So also is the resurrection of the dead. The body is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption.
1 Corinthians 15:49
And as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly Man.
1 Corinthians 15:52
In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
1 John 3:2
Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.
Not only that, but we also who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body.
Exodus 3:1 - 6
Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian. And he led the flock to the back of the desert, and came to Horeb, the mountain of God.
Moreover God said to Moses, "Thus you shall say to the children of Israel: 'The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is My name forever, and this is My memorial to all generations.
Acts 7:30 - 32
And when forty years had passed, an Angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire in a bush, in the wilderness of Mount Sinai.
For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God.
Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
For if we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lord's.
For to this end Christ died and rose and lived again, that He might be Lord of both the dead and the living.
But now they desire a better, that is, a heavenly country. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.
Matthew 22:41 - 46
While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them.
Mark 12:35 - 37
Then Jesus answered and said, while He taught in the temple, "How is it that the scribes say that the Christ is the Son of David?
The LORD said to my Lord, "Sit at My right hand, Till I make Your enemies Your footstool.
For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he says himself: 'The LORD said to my Lord, "Sit at My right hand.
Till I make Your enemies Your footstool."
"And when He had removed him, He raised up for them David as king, to whom also He gave testimony and said, 'I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My own heart, who will do all My will.'
From this man's seed, according to the promise, God raised up for Israel a Savior - Jesus -
Concerning His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who was born of the seed of David according to the flesh.
Who are Israelites, to whom pertain the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the service of God, and the promises.
Of whom are the fathers and from whom, according to the flesh, Christ came, who is over all, the eternally blessed God. Amen.
Matthew 23:1 - 7
Then Jesus spoke to the multitudes and to His disciples.
Mark 12:38 - 40
Then He said to them in His teaching, "Beware of the scribes, who desire to go around in long robes, love greetings in the marketplaces.
But all their works they do to be seen by men. They make their phylacteries broad and enlarge the borders of their garments.
Woe to you Pharisees! For you love the best seats in the synagogues and greetings in the marketplaces.
So He told a parable to those who were invited, when He noted how they chose the best places, saying to them:
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you devour widows' houses, and for a pretense make long prayers. Therefore you will receive greater condemnation.
And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.
But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.
