Thankfully, the Bible contains a clear definition of faith in Hebrews 11:1: "Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen." Simply put, the biblical definition ...

Faith is hearing and hearing the word of God(Rom10:17). Faith is presented as a gift from God (2 Pet.1:1, Ph.1:29,Acts3:16)

When we accept the finished work on the cross by Jesus Christ on our behalf we act by faith supplied by grace. That is the supreme act of faith; the act which, though it is ours, is primarily God's - His gift to us out of His grace. (Eph.2:8-9

A person who is spiritually dead cannot even make a decision of faith unless God first breathes into him the spiritual life. Faith is simply a breathing the breath that God's grace supplies.

A simple formula of faith is believe plus confidence(1John5:13-14).

Definition given in Hebrew.11:1 and thereafter the subsequent examples of faith are to figure out the faith of Old Testament characters who were under grace.

Faith is believing what Jesus said. John 6:47 Jesus said, if we believe on Him he will give us eternal life. Jesus said it, we believe it, and that settles it.

It is no difference than believing my car is white. I believe it is white because it is white.

We believe what Jesus said, because Jesus said it and He can not lie. John 6:40 And this is the will of Him who sent me, that ALL that seeth the Son, and believeth on Him, may have everlasting life, and I will raise Him up on the last day. Gods word.

If you can not trust Gods word, who can you trust? Paul continued to preach faith in Jesus for the free gift of eternal life.

Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the POWER of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

Jesus paid the penalty for sin for everyone in the whole world, First John 2:2, so that anyone could receive the free gift of eternal life by faith alone in His finished work on the cross alone.

Faith is just believing what HE said. John 3:16-18 For God so loved the world, that HE gave His only begotten Son, Jesus, that WHOSOEVER believeth in Him, should not perish, but have everlasting life.

John 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that heareth my word, and believeth on Him that sent me, HATH EVERLASTING LIFE, and shall not come into judgement, but is passed from death unto life.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the GIFT of God is eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. A gift is paid in full by the giver. The GIFT of God is eternal life. Once we receive the free gift of eternal life we can not lose it because it is eternal and God can not lie.

Faith is just believing what God said in His word. First John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that BELIEVE on the name of the Son of God, that ye may KNOW YE HAVE ETERNAL LIFE. John 10:28-29.

We had no way to pay for our sin debt. Jesus paid it all and we paid 0. The GIFT of God is eternal life, He paid the debt and set us free. No longer condemned. John 3:18.
