Mini Tim Maas Retired Quality Assurance Specialist with the U.S. Army
To reward people for their faith
To strengthen the faith of those who already believed in Him
To show His compassion and love for people in need
To prove His identity as God incarnate (especially with regard to His ability/authority to forgive sins)

Conversely (as shown by His refusal of Satan's temptations):

Not to supersede the Father's priorities/spiritual guidance to satisfy His own human desires

Not to win converts through spectacular or meaningless displays, or in response to the desires of the faithless for a "sign", unconnected to genuine human needs (including spiritual needs)

Not to contravene the Father's plan for the establishment of His kingdom on earth through complicity with "the world" in its opposition to God
