Hello Christa. Commentator Albert Barnes wrote regarding James 5:15, "This must be understood, as such promises are everywhere, with this restriction, that they will be restored to health if it shall be the will of God; if he shall deem it for the best. It cannot be taken in the absolute and unconditional sense, for then, if these means were used, the sick person would always recover, no matter how often he might be sick, and he need never die. The design is to encourage them to the use of these means with a strong hope that it would be effectual."

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness
I firmly believe Jame 5:14-16 says what it means & means what it says. 
Jesus Paid the price for us to be 'made whole'... live healed, as well as paid the price to remove our sins from us.

The problem arises, we often pray for healing, but the bible says 1 Peter 2:24 ' by whose stripes you were healed.'... 
and Matt 8:17 “He Himself took our infirmities
And bore our sicknesses.”
and again in Isa 53:5
But He was wounded for our transgressions,
He was bruised for our iniquities;
The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,
And by His stripes we are healed
Jesus death & resurrection bought & paid for our healing... but this 'world' has taught us that seeing is believing, so people cry out for healing when we "have" our healing... it's almost a paradox... to seek to grow one's faith in healing while laying on a bed of affliction, but when we can "see" in our mind's eye ourselves Healed, and 'know' because Scripture says so, then we have victory over whatever struggle or problem we have, then it shall manifest itself in this world, because it's already 'done' in heaven. 

Our needs are met according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus... no one in heaven is sick or lacks anything & we can live like that here on this earth, but The Bible says we must 'bridle our tongue' so often we 'curse' ourselves ie: Oh it's flu season again, & I always catch everything... or.... well, two bad things have happened & everything comes in 3's so wonder what's next! We open the door for problems by our own heart's belief, and it's' hard to believe you are healed when the Dr says you have cancer & it's terminal... but "To him who believeth all things are possible! Mark 9:23

Judas would not believe Jesus was really alive because he had watched him die & had not seen him yet,... Jesus said Blessed is HE who has not seen and yet has believed... if you can't believe you're healed just because the Bible says it, when you have been attacked with some sort of sickness or disease... then call for others to help you... to unite their faith with yours... ask others to pray for you.

But God is not a man that He should lie (Num 23:19)... He bought and paid for our healing and it is ours.. "to him who believeth!"
