I think that we perceive that because we are reading about personal accounts in the lives of people who are very close to God. 

I know that there are many people today that would say that they don't see it because God is so active in their lives right now. Missionaries, Evangelist, Pastors, even ordinary people who walk closely with God. 

If you take a few minutes and think of times when you felt closest to God, there will probably be a number of personally supernatural things that have happened to you. Maybe not what you consider on the level you read about in the Bible, but supernatural none the less. 

I believe God is every bit as active today as He was then, the world is just a bigger place and we can only view a small portion of what He is doing. 

Other than that, in one book, the Bible, we are reading of some of the historically most important events of all time and those events don't necessarily happen that often. That is not to say that one of those events may not happen today or tomorrow. 

Just try to stay as close to God as you can and be secure in knowing He is God!

All that is necessary to be able to recognize God's footprints in our lives is to stay close to Him through prayer, quiet time, scripture study, etc, and we will experience personal interaction with the Lord. A major key is to start your daily "walk" by calling on the Lord Jesus. Jesus said "No one can come to the Father except through Me (John 14:6). Also, "At that time you won't need to ask Me for anything... you will ask the Father directly, and He will grant your request because you use My name." (John 16:23) Why in His name? "You can ask for anything in My name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father" (John 14:13). God's glory is to be our motive for wanting His anointing on our lives, not our own. Answered prayer is God's reciprocal action of communication and is often taken lightly, and judged as a coincidence, or even as normal living. We ask for our daily bread, and when we eat it we might give thanks, but really believe He didn't get involved. He knows what we need (and sometimes provides it) before we even ask (Matt 6:8).

I remember dreaming as a kid growing up. I dreamed about my classmates, teachers, parents, siblings, and the things I did with them. I never dreamed about anything I had not already experienced, anything that could be considered pertaining to the future. I now dream about faces / people I don't recognize and I don't know what the dream is about; there's no coherent theme to it, like taking a test, going swimming or fishing, playing ball, the things I dreamed about as a kid. Where does that come from?

In the book of Genesis 41 the Pharoah had a dream, and in the book of Daniel 4 Nebuchadnezzar had a dream, and both dreams needed to be elucidated, they needed an interpreter. Joseph and Daniel assisted them respectively, with the Lord doing the decoding, which makes the most sense, since He was the source of the perplexing dreams. Both were dreams of future occurrences. Both occurred. I think that's how you know it is of God, it's not about an experience you're reliving in your sleep, the way dreams normally are.

And in the last days it shall be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, (that's some serious interacting) and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, (women preachers) and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams (Acts 2:17).

Yet, if you profess to have experienced God in this biblical way, you stand a better than average chance of being disbelieved and ridiculed. Nobody needs that, it's just as well to keep it to yourself. That might account for a pittance of testimonies of interactions with the Lord today that mirror the biblical accounts I depicted above. That, and, like I stated above, a lack of spiritual understanding needed to recognize God's footprints. If you walk with Him you should see His footprints next to yours. 

Your way was through the sea, your path through the great waters; yet your footprints were unseen. You led your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron (Psalm 77:19,20).
The writer of this psalm asked something similar to the question being asked here. He asked "will the Lord spurn forever, and never again be favorable? Has His steadfast love forever ceased, are His promises at an end for all time, has He forgotten to be gracious, has He in anger shut up His compassion"? (Vss 7-9). (Then vs 11) I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes I will remember your wonders of old.

Considering all the books that are online and in stores that carry personal testimonies of life experiences, there have been truckloads of personal and group accounts of God’s intervention in every society of every nation for thousands of years since Yeshua walked among us. So I think that the stories abound, but what matters is where we look for them. In every single church I have been a part of over a lifetime, personal accounts would surface by the day. And I'm just one.
