Why does modern media and art portray characters in the Bible as Europeans (white) when most of the people were of middle eastern and African descent?

Well when the Europeans converted they took the true Jews (blacks) as slaves. They had to make them look white to show they had power and authority. Changing it also made them feel more comfortable because some people accept things they can identify with physically also.
