There are at least two issues raised by your question.

First, do Christians have to believe in creationism for what? Christians need to believe just one thing to be saved. We must confess Jesus as Lord and believe he was raised from the dead. Romans 10:9. Nothing is said about believing in creationism in order to be a Christian.

To know whether Christians must believe in creationism to be a Christian, you need to define what you mean by creationism. The term simply refers to the belief all creation came into existence by the acts of a divine creator. Obviously all Christians do believe this. We believe God created everything.

The disagreement amongst many, including amongst Christians, as to how this came about is not, in my opinion, an issue that is of necessity, a required tenant of faith. Some believe in literal creation as described in Genesis. Others believe in evolutionary creationism or theistic evolution, that God created all using a process some describe as evolution. It is perfectly reasonable, logical, and consistent to believe God created everything in a way that is beyond our comprehension. Isaiah 55:8-9.

I believe this is one of those foolish debates we are warned of in I Timothy 1:4 and Titus 3:9. We should look with charity on those with different beliefs than our own rather than making this a litmus test of Christian Faith.

Yes, Christians are to believe in Creationism because it says in Genesis that God created us. We cannot pick and choose what we want to believe. There is so much evidence for God and not evolution... CreationScienceToday.com has so much proof using SCIENCE that God is real..
If there is a creation, there must be a creator. God bless you.

Creationism is the Christian's point of reference when we are looking at our origins. Creationism refers to the book of Genesis to explain the origins of the heavens and earth. Genesis says we are made in the image and likeness of God.

If you exclude creation then you need to ask how God did everything and whether he did actually do anything. There are 3 views on origins:

1) creation - that God created everything we see, he was there at the beginning and saw you before time began and put everything in to existence for a purpose

2) theistic evolution: God is using evolution (random changes by mutation over millions of years) to form everything we see today. Evolution was used by the Nazi's in the death and work camps and was also used by Stalin, Nietsche and Moussulini. Is a Nihistic way of thinking.

3) atheistic evolution: The universe came from nothing and that nothing exploded and created everything. You are a product of time plus matter plus space, you have no meaning and it's all about survival of the fittest. No explanation for morality and objective reasoning therefore their actions on a daily basis is pure pragmatism. You are no different from a Banana or a single celled organism and you are just a waste of carbon atoms that is really slowing down the process of evolution. The weak will die for the sake of humanity, allowing the strong to fight on for nothing.

So when I reply to your answer I do so with a very good understanding of the evolutionary method and understanding that there is a lot of evidence for intelligent design and creation.

I am a creationist, however I verge on the old creationist theory and I feel that it is essential that Christians keep to God's word about creation, otherwise effectively we call Jesus a liar because he quoted from Genesis a lot; also his death really had no reason whatsoever. Evolution says death brought man in to the world. Evolution is creation just turned upside down, everything is opposite to creation. They claim they have evidence but we never see it.

Hope that helps.

It is my humble opinion, that if you believe and have faith in God, and believe and have faith that Jesus died for your sins becoming your Lord and Saviour, that you must then believe His word as breathed in scripture - before and after Jesus walked the earth -

2 Timothy 3:16: All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,

- for us to know Him, and as such must also believe with all your heart and all your mind and all your strength that it is truth, specifically, Genesis 1.

Short Answer: Yes.

However, this is not a hard task because His glory is exalted in ALL creation... from the microscopic to the telescopic level, with interlacing relationships and laws applying to ALL shapes and sizes... For me, even before I met Christ, the existence of God in creation is self-evident. Science only serves to prove God's existence time and time again, not disprove it.

Romans 1:20: For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.

Personally I never had enough faith even before becoming a Christian to believe that coming from nothing at all, we then crawled out of primordial ooze into an existence with so much relationship, order, diversity and beauty.

Why? Because our God is an awesome god!

Blessings,
in HIM,
Lynn

It is vitally important to believe in Biblical Creationism because it gives a firm foundation for the rest of the Bible. One cannot compromise on this and if you do all sorts of problems arise. For example atheists say that science has shown that there was never an Adam and Eve and therefore no original sin and no need of a savior.

The science one can glean from the Bible ties in beautifully with scientific observation. For example

1. Genetic studies have confirmed mutational changes in DNA are consistent with a young 6,000 year old earth. If humans had been here for 200,000 years the known mutational rate would have wiped us all out a long time ago.
2. Macro evolution states that, thru the process of mutations and natural selection, microbes can go to mice to monkeys and eventually man over many millions of years. This cannot happen as biology does not work that way as mutations cause disease and death not better/fitter life forms. Also the finding of zero intermediate life forms in the fossil record confirmed that evolution couldn't occur.
3. Humans after Eden were basically mutation free and so lived to 900 years and one could have close relative intermarrying. Because the mutation rate had increased in fallen humans God, after the Noahic worldwide flood put a stop to close relative marrying. Also the higher mutation rate after Noah's time was evidenced with shorter life spans.
4. Geologic sedimentary layers throughout the world speak of a worldwide flood as do the fossil finds.

In short the Bible is absolute truth and if you try to put a secular slant to it you end up shooting yourself in the foot. So please don't compromise God's word. If you put a question mark over biblical creationism you may as well do so for the redemption and resurrection story as well.
