I believe that the Bible says that marriage is one man to one woman for life. I am very happy that this man has come to know his Lord Jesus personally. What Jesus asks us to do is not the easy way but the narrow way that leads to heaven. I do not believe that he was actually married to the divorced woman but was living in adultery since when God joins a man and woman in marriage, He is the only one who ends a marriage by death. In this case the divorced woman was still married to her husband. Romans 7 says that a woman will be known as an adulteress if she marries someone else while her husband is still alive. From your question, I am guessing that she was an adulteress and the man who married her committed adultery too. So now that he is saved he needs to lead a life of repentance. 18 Run from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. For sexual immorality is a sin against your own body. 19 Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, 20 for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body-- 1 Corinthians 6 also applies that he was an adulterer, but that is what he was! "Don’t you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality, 10 or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people—none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God. 11 Some of you were once like that. But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God." Now he is a new creation in Christ who should be committed to going and sinning no more like the woman forgiven of adultery- John 8:11, he should confess his sin of adultery and go and sin no more. He should forgive as he has been forgiven and explain to her that he is forgiven and ask for her forgiveness. He should not do this in a self-righteous way but a humble way. He is going to have to seek the Lord's still, small voice about how to proceed. The Lord is faithful to tell him what he needs to do and how to proceed. For me, I think that the Lord would expect him to remain celibate, but God will tell him what to do. He needs to be reading and doing what the Bible says every day, listening to good biblical teaching that doesn't promote cheap grace without obedience and seeking out other believers to hold him accountable to the Word. Hopefully, godly sorrow produced repentance and repentance produces deeds of repentance for this man. "For the kind of sorrow God wants us to experience leads us away from sin and results in salvation. There’s no regret for that kind of sorrow. But worldly sorrow, which lacks repentance, results in spiritual death". 2 Corinthians 7:10 and Titus 2:14 He gave his life to free us from every kind of sin, to cleanse us, and to make us his very own people, totally committed to doing good deeds. God bless! Terry
Uguru, if you believe that that Matthew 19:1-11, or other passage(s) in the New Covenant cover(s) the situation you describe and makes what someone did sinful, 1 John 1:8-10 says the sinner must confess the sin to our heavenly Father. The consequences of our sin also affects others. If sin was involved in this case, the woman, whether or not she committed adultery, plus the local Body(ies) of Jesus would seem to be affected. An apology to her privately plus a public one, probably would be wise and healing. Ceasing to marry any more divorced people, except one sinned against by adultery, would also be very wise! Blessing!
The HOLY SCRIPTURES of the KJV clearly states in Matthew 19:5-6; "For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and the twain shall be one flesh. Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore GOD has joined together, let no man put asunder." Sadly, these verses are greatly ignored in our modern society- but, those of us who choose to serve GOD, will support the original intent of marriage. Whereas, the facts remain; - there are no bases for divorce for any reason - divorce is sin - and the restitution to sin, is salvation. Pray for His continued Tender Mercies and Grace.
If he came to Christ after all this occurred, than Christ has forgiven him for anything he one was involved with and any divorces in the past. Proper restitution with the woman is forgiveness of her for any past wrongs, and personal confession and asking forgiveness for any wrongs done to her. There may be other amends (such as financial) that he also needs to make. (Luke 19:8, Luke 6:27-36) He does not need to seek remarriage with her. If he came to Christ after all this occurred, than Christ has forgiven him for anything he one was involved with. He should remain in the position he was in when called. (1 Cor 7:17-24), and he is not bound by her to seek remarriage if she is an unbeliever and divorced him (1 Cor 17:12-16, II Cor 6:14). It is recommended by Paul (not the Lord, but a good recommendation) that he not remarry another woman. (1 Cor 7:17-35). However, if sexual sin is a strong temptation, than marriage would be a better alternative (I Cor 7:8-9, 1 Cor 7:36-38, II Sam 12:7-10).
